good luck shinebox.

Hahaha. At least we know the Indians won't be a good second half team.

You know the second they sign him he's going to hit .260 with several HR's.

You have 1, a couple which is 2, a few which is 3-4 and several is 7. Not sure what 5-6 is but .260 with 7 HR is not much.

Meh...he like maybe Delmon Young, Brandon Inge, and less likely Jose Valverde, probably can only hope for what Don Kelly was offered by the Tigers. Have to admit that it is a bit strange (to me, anyway) that a player who is now @ his peak performance age of 27, and who was named the ALCS MVP last year, albeit his being truly valuable only as a FT DH, apparently hasn't even received any feelers yet by any MLB ballclub...:hmm:

Perhaps the Yankees could have shown some interest in Delmon, but since ARoid will be out for perhaps half of next season after having hip surgery, he may need to bat DH until (or if) he can return to playing defense @ 3B, where the ex-Red/White Sox IFer Yuckilis will be slotted to start the season. However, it isn't out of the realm of possibilty that both of the aging, brittle, and injury-prone IFers might not be able to avoid the DL sooner and/or later, not to mention the recovering Derek Jeter @ SS, who may also need to ride the pine when not DHing for @ least the start of next season.

The Tribe is closing in on a minor league deal with Raburn, according to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com The deal is likely to be finalized next week.

The Indians have signed Ryan Raburn to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com
Raburn, 31, projected to earn $2.1MM through the arbitration process. However, after a season that saw him post a .171/.226/.254 batting line in 222 plate appearances, that salary seemed excessive to the Tigers. Raburn averaged 15 home runs per season from 2009-11 and owns a career batting line of .256/.311/.430. He played second base and both corner outfield positions in 2012. The Braves and Marlins had interest in Raburn earlier in the offseason.

lolololol silly cleveland. He will of course hit lots of homers against us just like Inge because we will forget how to pitch to him.

New hitting coach is a instant bump in his batting average.. LOL

Probably, but if Boesch is traded and his batting stats noticeably improve, that will just be more evidence that the Tigers esteemed batting coach, Llegendary Lloyd McLendon, cannot work with some, if not many of the teams "younger" and more "impressionable" hitters. Can't really blame him for the older veterans since they are likely more difficult to work with, due to being long comfortable with their mechanics and approach to hitting. Jackson had a very good season at the plate, while cutting down the amount of Ks, so should Lloyd get any credit for his offensive improvement? Avila had a down season compared to '11, but perhaps that was due at least to favoring his aching legs, that are/were a large part behind his swing.

The now ex-Tiger Inge strikes me as being someone who would be one of the hardest "hitters" to help tweak his swing and stance, and "mentally" adjust his approach to the plate, he has given the impression that it is everybody's fault but his own for his slumps and his Mendoza-line BA. Its the opposing pitchers, its the manager, its the lack of baserunners, and so on...

Boesch seems to have had a very dour mood, especially as last season wore on, and he was getting less and less ABs while slumping all the more. Now that his alleged bff in Delmon Young has departed, I would have to guess that his absence from the dugout and clubhouse might not exactly improve Brennan's attitude, we will see what happens during ST and maybe the beginning of the season, IF he isn't traded beforehand.

Inge was never one for taking Lloyd's (or anyone's) advice on hitting though. Which was what was so goddamned frustrating about him (1 of 10,000 things), as terrible as he was, he would still not take advice from anyone.

Remember this was a guy who got DFA'd from a team he had just made 10/5 on, and decided to use his time in AAA to "act like I'm playing softball".

The Indians announced that they signed catcher Omir Santos to a minor league contract with a non-roster invitation to Spring Training (Twitter link). Santos, 31, appeared in three games for the Tigers in 2012. He spent most of the season with the Triple-A affiliates of the Tigers and Rockies, posting a .310/.318/.429 batting line in 212 plate appearances. Santos has experience in parts of four MLB seasons with the Orioles, Mets and Tigers.
another ex-Tiger.

He will hit 6 hr and bat .500 in spring, make the team, and strikeout every 3 AB's while playing soccer in left field.

Shinebox is at it again......

Mr. March strikes again: Cleveland's Ryan Raburn hits Cactus League-leading fourth home run.

Would be genuinely shocked if shinebox does anything more than jacksquat during the first half of the regular season, should he make the tribe's 25 man roster after the conclusion of ST, based on his early season tendencies and past history. Is he playing 2B and/or LF defense as well, or is francona using him primarily or frequently as DH?
