I know it's really early to be posting about next year, but whatever. Who do you guys want to see us sign, trade, bring up, part ways with?

I think we really lucked out with Peralta, Avila, Boesch and Fister otherwise we'd be looking at filling a ton more holes. Right now, cutting ties with the old DH types and using that money on filling 1-2 holes makes this team a ton better. I think the biggest holes we need to fill are 2B/3B and a lefty starter. I'm fine with running Betemit or Santiago out there so long as we upgrade the other position. I think Castellanos is still a 2013 guy, and our current 3B situation is better, so I'd prefer a 2B given the choice. I want Inge, Maggs, Guillen and Penny shown the door. I'd definitely bring Valverde back. I'd make Porcello, Perry, Schlereth and maybe even Scherzer available. I'd sign Zoom to a minimum deal and hope to hell he could get healthy enough to be a specialist.

Looking at the 2012 free agent list, it isn't too impressive... http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/03/2012-mlb-free-agents.html

Reyes and HamRam (via trade) would be at the top of my list, and I'd put Rollins after them even though he's struggled. Rollins might make more sense money and position-wise though. Pitching-wise, there's a chance that CC and Oswalt could opt out, and either of them would be a huge upgrade for us. I'm definitely not banking on that happening, but maybe CC could be wooed by his old pals VMart and Peralta and the prospects of unlimited free Hot 'N Ready pizzas. The idea of pitching along side Verlander in this division would certainly be appealing too.

A trade might make more sense for us here since we seem to be flush with young righties. Maybe we make Porcello and Scherzer available for a top of the rotation lefty starter (which aren't exactly falling off of trees). We can bring up Turner to be the #5 or use Below if he's not ready.

I don''t want any part of Reyes or HamRam... Jose cannot stay healthy the last 3 years and he will take up most if not all of the money coming off the books..Ramirez to me appears to be a club house cancer plus he will be expensive also.. I agree that Magglio, Gullien, inge, and Penny should be gone... I would throw in Raburn also.. Tigers can get faster by default just by jettisoning those players above and replacing them with anybody.. Inge will probably get another shot because he is under contract.

Big things for us:

Second baseman: consensus is Carrol.

Third baseman: kinda sucks we could not land Beltre last year, but I don;t know if I was to see another Inge/Betemit platoon next year.

Backup Catcher: I think Victor's days behind the plate may be over, if there is a so-so FA out there, we should grab him, after all it's only for 1 in 5 games or so.

Starting pitcher, maybe 2 the way things are going.

Perhaps a corner OF, depending on if we keep DY or a backup to Boesch.

Illitch says he is not getting any younger and wants to win now, so he might as well spend like mad again for 2012 and take a real good shot at it.
