The trade deadline is coming up so i thought i would start a thread to discuss all things trade deadline related. Post any deal you would like the Wings to make or any articles discussing possible options for the deadline.

Drew Stafford a possibility? I dont like this, as much as having him play alongside Datsyuk would help, i think the Wings have enough inconsistent scorers as is.

Lubomir Visnovsky? I woudlnt mind this actually, his deal is over at the end of the season and he would fit into the Wings system well.

Also wouldnt mind this either, can never have enough Grit on the back end.

Wings trade deadline outlook.

Another option are a couple college free agents:

Either one could be useful, probably not for this season, but as talented prospects for the future. I'm not sure there are any players of the caliber we really need available. Bouwmeester tends to come up a lot with us, and Calgary is at the bottom of the conference. But, The difference between bottom of the conference and the 8th seed is only 2 points. I have a feeling most teams are going to stand pat and just ride out the season. There's just not sufficient time to evaluate team needs, and I think front offices get to work big time in the offseason when they are more comfortable with what they have.

Red wings as sellers at the deadline? I dont think i have ever said that phrase in my life. (born in 87)

I just can't see that being the case. For one, we're winning at the right time. For two, our consistency has so much to do with our injured and less talented blue line. We constantly turn the puck over in our own zone. However, that is a fixable problem. DeKeyser could be an immediate upgrade, and a trade for a top 4 defenseman goes a long way.

I think we are closer to being consistently pretty good (only time will tell if we can jump back up to elite) than blowing things up and rebuilding.

The Defense has actually improved significantly this season. Every team has turnovers in their own zone, Wings fans were just spoiled because Lidstrom never did. Most of the players that started on the blue line had never played together before or didnt have enough experience in the NHL. As the season goes on the unit improves seemingly every game, which is a trend i would expect to continue even through next year.

I would actually rate a scoring winger to play alongside Datsyuk as a higher priority than a defenseman at the moment.

I'm a lot more leery of Iginla than Bouwmeester in that instance. On one hand, we need another scorer, but Iginla is 35 and will be a free agent at year's end. I wouldn't want to lock up significant money or years into a guy that old, and if we give up a lot of young prospects/picks to do the deal, we all but tie ourselves into that inevitability. Bouwmeester produced points when put in position to get more shots and man the power play. Both of those fit what the Wings do, and I still think Bouwmeester would be a major upgrade to our blue-line. He's strong and wins pucks in the corners, but he's also very good turning around and starting the offense (something I think our current defenders struggle with).

Basically, I'd rather just pick up Bouwmeester than the package. If we make a play for a forward, we really just need a sniper to finish plays that Pavel and Henrik set up.

Wings making final pitch to DeKeyser. As has been posted many times around the internet, if this doesnt happen its time for torches and pitch forks.

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/...d-move-by-acquiring-Jarome-Iginla-from-Flames

Pens acquire Iginla, I didnt want him on the wings, but now seeing what Pitt gave up i would have gladly parted with that level of talent to land him.

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/...ason-might-temper-teams-enthusiasm-deal-Wings

Short season tempers teams enthusiasm to deal. Im already sick of hearing the excuses and the deadline hasn't passed. The asking price was too high, couldn't find any takers, getting so and so back is like a deadline deal. No more of that time to do something Holland.

Top candidates for deals at the deadline.

Filppulas trade value to other teams.

http://octopusthrower.com/2013/03/28/jarome-iginla-a-penguin-what-does-it-mean-for-detroit/

Iginla a penguin, what it means for Detroit.

Jason Pominville, a consistent scorer, might be part of Sabres' sell-off.

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/...s-hold-out-premium-talent-instead-spare-parts

Red Wings hold out for premium talent instead of spare parts. This makes sense, the team already has an excess of depth players, they are lacking at least one top 6 forward.

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2013/04/01/wings-gm-holland-wants-top-talent-not-depth/

basically same story as above.

Cap Space plays a big part at the trade deadline. Admittedly i struggle to understand cap implications, i usually wait for someone way better at math to explain them to me.

http://octopusthrower.com/2013/04/02/detroit-red-wings-trade-rumors-status-quo/

Sadly, this is what i expect for the Wings from the trade deadline, nothing.

http://octopusthrower.com/2013/04/02/can-the-red-wings-get-keith-yandle/

Could the Wings get Keith Yandle? My question is with the addition of Dekeyser do they really need him?

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/04/red_wings_trade_options_dwindl.html

Looks like its going to be w quiet trade deadline. My patience with Holland is dwindling.

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/...d-says-Red-Wings-fans-shouldn-t-expect-trades

Holland says fans shouldn't expect trades. On the positive side when we get Helm and Bertuzzi back it will be like trade deadline acquisitions. (sarcasm)

NHL Trade Deadline: What Are The Red Wings To Do?

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/...t-deadline-day-Wings-they-re-happy-their-team

One of the cliches i knew was coming out. "we are happy with our team"

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/04/red_wings_gm_ken_holland_made.html

Holland made offers but found no deals he liked. I am probably bitching a bit more than i should because frankly there weren't many players out there that i really liked for the wings. I agree this team is in rebuilding mode and trading away young talent doesn't make sense right now. I still am pissed about the last two seasons doing nothing at the deadline when i feel trading away some of that young talent may have won this team a cup.

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/04/red_wings_coach_mike_babcock_c_1.html

Babcock happy with team as it stands bla bla bla. I mean what else is he really supposed to say "we have no shot in hell of going anywhere Ken Holland you suck."

http://www.freep.com/article/201304...deal-Red-Wings-GM-Ken-Holland-banks-on-future

With no big money deals Wings bank on future. Holland better hope its a bright one, Wings fans arnt known to be the most patient group, and i get the feel around the interwebs that the torches are being brought out.

http://www.nightmareonhelmstreet.co...-completes-his-trade-deadline-to-do-list.html

Holland completes his trade deadline to do list.

http://octopusthrower.com/2013/04/03/no-deal-for-detroit-red-wings-at-trade-deadline/

Basically same as all other ariticles above with a little analysis.

http://thefeatheredwheel.blogspot.com/2013/04/ken-holland-no-trades-was-smart-move.html

No trades was a smart move. Despite my sarcastic shots above i actually agree with this.
