Justin Upton kicking ass in Atlanta

Its April 7th. Chris Shelton baby. And I don't anyone said overrated. Might not have wanted him for other reasons but that's different. April "freakin" 7.

No one team is gonna have 1-9 lineup of all-stars and potential all-stars @ every position. Tigers have what DD and the Tigers brass considers to be "complimentary" players within the lineup & roster, whether we like it or not.

It hasn't been a week yet.

You're being an idiot.

And people said he was over rated... sigh.

He is still playing in the national league, and in on a team and environment he has peace of mind in......also with his brother.

The cost was going to be for too many prospects and or starters...remember Castellanos, Garcia, and Porcello.....maybe one more player.

and as others said, it's one week.

I felt that the tigers shouldve invested in the upton brothers long term instead of two years of torii hunter and hoping garcia and/or castellanos panned out. But they were prob focused on resigning anibal and extending verlander since the ws ended, so i can hardly blame them. They both have the outfield defense, speed, and power that not only compliments miggy and fielder's game well, but also austin jackson. Plus for what the braves paid for upton after the failed mariners trade, then the tigers would not have paid nearly as much as you thought. And its been two weeks now and justin upton is still pretty good.

Justin's brother BJ who is in his "prime" age of 28, is hitting an anemic .152/.250/.261 with only 2 doubles and 14Ks in 46 ABs so far, and has a mediocre .254 career BA. As it is, the Tigers will have to soon plan for large salary increases in the near future for AJax, Avila, and Cabrera, as well as SPs Fister, Porcello, and Scherzer, depending on who/how many they intend to keep, and considering that they don't have many if any blue-chip LH or RH SP prospects in the high minors that will become ML ready within the next several years.

Hunter and Martinez,('14) as well as Peralta and Infante ('13) may be becoming off the books during the next couple if seasons, but perhaps most if not all will be offered one-season contracts after each of their current agreements expire. Omar, Jhonny, Torri, and Victor in order of potential need, eroding skills/age/declining health, and their being readily replaceable internally and/or externally.

Doubt if Worth will be capable of becoming the Tigers FT SS, and they may not have anyone who can step in and take over 2B FT as yet in the minors. Neither Miggy nor Fielder will very likely have any desire to become their FT DH as yet. Perhaps it will come down to retaining either Hunter or VMart as the FT DH in '15.

Last 3 years Away:

B. Zobrist (31) .289 BAVG .371 OBP .481 SLG .852 OPS Averaging 10 HR 10 SB 3 CS 6.6 UZR/150

N. Swisher (32) .267 BAVG .363 OBP .478 SLG .841 OPS Averaging 13 HR 1 SB 2 CS 1.9
UZR/150

T. Hunter (37) .288 BAVG .356 OBP .459 SLG .815 OPS Averaging 11 HR 5 SB 4 CS 1.0 UZR/150

B.J. Upton (28) .245 BAVG .316 OBP .439 SLG .755 OPS Averaging 12 HR 16 SB 4 CS 0.1 UZR/150

J. Upton (25) .253 BAVG .331 OBP .408 SLG .739 OPS Averaging 9 HR 12 SB 4 CS 1.1 UZR/150

Despite Justin Upton's early season success, the Upton brothers are over-rated and over-hyped. Justin Upton could hit 20 HR in April and it doesn't change the last 3 year's worth of data, where he was below average. Both Upton's are below average.

He's still overrated and you're still an idiot if you think his ISO of .507 and SLG of .813 is going to contiune all year long. He will fall off, likely off a cliff.

Not only is he over-rated but he is despised in the clubhouse. Gibson could not wait to see that cancer gone.

Brant Alyea once lead the AL in hitting for a month in 1970 when he hit .415 in April.

One of those lines is Upton's April this year. One line is for Chris Shelton's April 2006. Upton will come crashing down back to earth.

Its been pretty infrequent when the Tigers have made more than one "big" off-season FA signing and/or trade for positional players since DD became GM. Young ('02), LOL ('03), White+Pudge ('04), Guillen+Ordonez ('05), Sheffield ('07), Renteria+Cabrera ('08), Everett+Laird ('09), Damon ('10), Martinez ('11), Fielder ('12), and Hunter.

Bump.

J. Upton = .232 BAVG .726 OPS 2 HR for month of May (100 PA) (1-6 last 2 games of April)

B.J. = .156 BAVG .501 OPS 1 HR for month of May (73 PA) (0-5 last 2 games of April)

A pay raise for Avila would be questionable. He has had one good season and has as many hits as Pena in twice as many AB's this year so for.

Since May 12, the Upton brothers are hitting a combined .200 with 77 Ks in 230 ABs, in that time they have made a total of $5,207,407.

... but the thread-starter says he's right most all-the-time, concerning player acquisitions for the Tigers.
