Assuming we manage to hold onto our draft pick (still not a sure thing, but they're working on it :/ )...
Smith: at age 28, his prime will be past as Drummond, KCP, and whoever we draft this summer move into their primes, so even though he fits better than Monroe along with Drummond, he may not be the best player to keep of the two. Yet due to age/style of play, contract, and how poorly we've utilized him this year (he is NOT a SF), his value is much lower than Monroe's. What could we expect in return for him if we decided to move him? Would you trade him for a bag of balls and an expiring contract, or do we hold out for value?
Monroe: he is younger, has position flexibility (PF or C) and is a good offensive player; but although I don't think he's a liability, he's not very good defensively (except as a rebounder). He would also be limited to a sign and trade since he will be a RFA. Yet he will likely get offered a contract for more than he's worth to this team by someone else... do we overpay him or let him go? Other teams know we risk losing him for nothing, so we lose leverage in trade talks... what can we reasonably expect to get in return for him in a sign and trade? If we can't move Smith, do you really go another year with all three of Smith, Monroe, and Drummond on the team?
Stuckey: please, just let him walk unless he comes back for dirt cheap... with the guys we have inside, we need perimeter shooters.
Billups: injuries and age have caught up to him... hopefully he retires and doesn't put the organization through the difficult choice of whether he's still able to to be an NBA player. Would love to see him as an assistant working with the guards on shooting/ball handling though.
Villanueva: yeah, he's gone.
Free agents: With Stuckey and Villanueva off the books, we will probably have some room to sign an impact FA even if we resign Monroe and can't move Smith... who is desirable to you?
