this really isn't that different from Catholicism in most of Europe, the Anglican church in Henry VIII's England, or Protestant Christianity in the Nordic countries.
I guess a moderate state-sponsored flavor of christianity is better than having a bunch of real Nutjobs running around, as long as you can still be an atheist if you want, and nobody will screw with you because of that.
