KALAMAZOO, MI ? The Mendon football team will be shorthanded when it takes the field this week.

Eight players on Mendon?s football team have been suspended for the Hornets? Week 3 game against Watervliet, according to Mendon athletic director Leasa Griffith.

Griffith said the suspension is for ?disciplinary reasons? and that they players ?broke an athletic policy rule.? Griffith said the eight suspended players are all seniors and they are eligible to return Week 4.

According to Mendon?s preseason roster, there were 22 players on the Hornets? varsity team. Of those 22 players, two players, Parker Cupp and Mitch Coler, were lost for the season with injuries.

With eight more players not playing in Friday?s game, Mendon's roster sits in the low teens and the Hornets may have to dip into their junior varsity team to field a full team.

Mendon enters its matchup against Watervliet (1-1) having won 35 straight regular season games. The Hornets defeated Centreville, 45-12, and Cassopolis, 21-7, in its first two games of the 2014 season.
