Chelsea was the final team to qualify for the playoffs, beating Coldwater in a Sunday afternoon game when Saturday's snow forced a postponement. A loss to Ypsilanti ruined a perfect season for Chelsea, which makes its first state final appearance. This is Orchard Lake St. Mary's sixth state final appearance in the past seven years. St. Mary's, the defending Division 3 state champion, beat East Grand Rapids, 14-7, in the semifinal to earn a return trip. St. Mary's lone loss came against Warren De La Salle. Chelsea and Orchard Lake have never met.
