US to withdraw ALL troops from Iraq?!?

I am sure the timing is a mere coincidence.

But like I said these banner headlines and all this news coverage is only a window dressing. It's intended to obscure the fact that we're still going to be there spending billions/year. And in Afghanistan, also spending billions. And we also have combat troops in Uganda now, and some in Libya. And unmanned drones attacking people in Yemen, Pakistan, and god knows where else.

And all that is essential to our national defense, such that we have to start cutting domestic programs that we've had adequate funding for decades in order to continue to fund these armed conflicts abroad.

Yep, he hit the trifecta this year. Got Osama, got Gaddafi, and got out of Iraq. Say what you want about any of those "accomplishments" but it's going to be nearly impossible to attack him from a defense standpoint. It's gonna be all about the economy, stupid.

Well, they will still attack him over defense, and the mouth-breathers in the NRA will still believe he's soft on defense. he could personally go to Iran and slaughter every Iranian person with his bare hands, and - while they would be happy people in the middle east are dying - they would still not vote for Obama, or consider him a "real man" like W.

Either way, it's all a little silly. The troops were withdrawn under an agreement inked by Bush before he left office. Throughout this whole period of time the obama administration had been lobbying for an extension of the troop presence in Iraq anyways, just as the Bush Administration would've done. The only reason they didn't succeed is because the Iraqi's refused to extend the grant of immunity from Iraqi law to US troops.

not sure what sort of immunity - if any - they give to American mercenaries, I mean "contractors" there supporting the State dept. personnel.
