The Wings official twitter feed reports that Kronwall will be a wing for 7 more years, likely making him a Detroit lifer.

The Deal will pay him an annual salary of 4.7 million until he is 38 years old.

I am ECSTATIC about this signing...the dude is a workhorse and is probably our most important defenseman. Obviously Lids is irreplaceable but Kronwall leads the team in Ice time, is a team leader (he is an Alternate captain this year) and can also throw his body around.

I was worried that we might lose him, or have to overpay for him..he would easily get 6+ mil a year if he hit the open market. That we were able to get him for under 5 is honestly incredible.

Agreed. Getting him for 4.7 allows the team to get a Weber type. Great move in relation to the salary cap.

Very good signing. Kronwall takes a #2 pay despite playing a #1 game. It does open the door for more moves in FA or trades. Keeping him around makes next year a lot easier to determine for Holland.
