ALLEN PARK - Some observations from Saturday's Detroit Lions training camp practice:
--- During a team drill, rookie running back Mikel Leshoure made a very nice cut to escape trouble and hit open space. He showed some real acceleration to move away from the pack for a big gain. Leshoure continues to show good hands, catching almost everything thrown at him (Jahvid Best, meanwhile, is still dropping too many - his hands are better than that).
--- While the quarterbacks were getting chased a lot and under constant pressure, they still didn't have a great day throwing the ball. Stafford made some big throws but wasn't as consistently sharp as he's been. Hill has been a lot more accurate in other practices. Some of that is due to the young receivers he's playing with.
--- The Lions are off on Sunday and will return to the practice field on Monday. Detroit's first preseason game is 7:30 p.m. Friday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Detroit's first regular season game is Sept. 11 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
