the old man was born 2/12/1809.

Didn't realize that there was an effort to get this made an official holiday. It should be.

Without getting into a religious discussion, Darwin will never get the credit he deserves, which is sad.

He's considered to be one of the top scientists of all time. How much more credit can he get?

A 200th birthday would have been nice. I'll bet someone held one.

his own holiday.

Darwin is someone who put out a theory that has never "evolved" into anything more than that.

His theories have constantly been slammed by narrow minded organizations.

He was called a heretic, the argument about whether his ideas should be taught in schools is still ongoing.

The name Darwin is still considered a "dirty word" to many people.

not me. I even have a Darwinfish refrigerator magnet.

That's still recognition. Maybe not the kind of recognition people want, but the problem isn't a lack of recognition.

evolution is theory as well as fact. for a quick primer useful to the uninformed, see the wikipedia article on the dual nature of evolution: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution_as_fact_and_theory. natural selection is the mechanism whereby it progress.

In regards to The Descent of Man, even Darwin was tentative about it, and that's what I am focusing on. And I reject the notion that I am "one of an exceptional set of primates."

what are you then? a highly evolved amoeba?

a strange form of three-toed sloth?

A fish that learned to walk on land and breathe air?

None of the above.

I said credit, not recognition.

Huh?[/quote:kwcs0gr0]

After the last thread, I thought I'd go ahead and inject some Catholicism.

Right, but read what you wrote, see if you can spot the mistake.
