I don't think this is something reasonable people can disagree on. It's not even a matter of holding a defensible position, or differing on policy; these people are simply complete bigots and ignoramuses. Their influence on the electorate is accordingly negative, since a democracy relies on an intelligent and informed population to make choices, and these people are neither.

And no, this is not excused by attacking ignorant beliefs other groups may hold.

Do they have to believe both that Obama is a Muslim and not born in the United States to be disqualified from voting, or just one of the two?

Depending on how you mean "these people should not vote", I either disagree with you, or strongly disagree with you.

If you mean they should not be allowed to vote, then you forget one of the fundamental principles of Democracy, and that's the right to voice your opinion, no matter if it's right or wrong. We allow members of the KKK to vote.

If you mean they should just stay home and not vote, then I still disagree, just not as strongly. Too many people love to bitch and whine about problems with our country and our politicians but don't do anything about it.

Nobody should "not vote".

If you name some ignorant belief, seems like there's always at least a few out there that believe it, but this isn't just few. Embarrassingly high numbers.

Stupidity isn't the problem. The problem is false information. Large numbers of dumb creatures (like termites and slime molds) can find the right answers and even complicated solutions to problems if their information is accurate.

Silly southerners...little do they know, I'm voting for Obama because he's a socialist muslim from Kenya

Kenya did have a little display about Obama at the 2010 World Expo. I saw it myself.

Unbelievable

"A few states, including Alabama, kept the laws even though they could no longer be enforced. Alabama finally repealed its law in 2000 through a public referendum, though 40 percent of the electorate voted in favor of keeping interracial marriage illegal."

I mean they should not vote.

They should say "I enjoy being an ignorant bigot, as is my right, however, I will accordingly excuse myself from participating in the democratic process because I am not informed enough to exercise my right to vote in a reasonable manner. Also, due to my racist views, my influence on the electorate is uniquely harmful to the nation's well being, and therefore I agree the nation would be better off if I kept to myself."

But dumb people are too dumb to recognize that they are dumb. Even if you give them $100 if they can rate themselves appropriately, everyone says they're above average.

So, what you're saying is if people don't believe in the same things or views as you, they should not vote.

You realize this makes you sound just as bad as them.

You can't start expecting people not to vote so they don't influence the electorate and harm the nations well being without a sense of irony that those same people probably have the same idea about you.

We are a nation Of the People, for the People, we are not a nation Of some people, for some other people.

...

no, just people that are ignorant and uninformed should not vote. Republicans, Fascists, Christians, reactionaries, etc. can and should all vote.

There goes the Tea Party.

well you got Sarah Palin out there telling people Obama is taking the country back to the racial divide of before the Civil War....lol

I'd like Sarah Palin, a Soviet flag, a tube of KY and about an hour-and-a-half on any given Saturday afternoon ..... she'd be seeing Russia alright!

And LMAO and "everyone" voting ... as if everyone should be able to vote! Ha!

Alabama has the third worst infant mortality rate in the United States, the third lowest life expectancy, and the second highest obesity rate. Only four states have more single parent households per capita than the great state of Alabama.

Mississippi is worse. It has the lowest per capita income in the United States, the highest percentage of persons living below the poverty level, the fourth highest unemployment rate, the third highest percentage of mobile homes per capita, the highest infant mortality rate, the highest percentage of out-of-wedlock births, the highest percentage of single-parent households, the highest obesity rate, the second worst high school graduation rate and the lowest life expectancy."</blockquote>this is an interesting point: <blockquote>"For Feldman, however, the issue now is not the South

um... I think it's an either/or thing with them. although, if you're foreign born, caucasian, and running against Obama they might prefer you. Unless you're French, or "too European"

if they're happy being racist, uneducated pig farmers, living in filth, with short life expectancy, and high infant mortality... good for them. Ignorance is bliss as they say, and I wouldn't think of making anyone unhappy by forcing them to live up to my standards, or even the standards of middle class America.

However, they should not take part in our democracy, because they're ruining it for everyone else.

We should cut a deal: they can keep wallowing in mud and pig vomit, free from any government intervention in exchange for not voting at all. It's like an addendum to the greater social contract.

I guess you dont realize that Ala & MIss. have a large percentage of blacks who are not republicans and are very poor. 38% of Miss is black and 28% of Ala...hence your mobile home stats, etc isnt necessarily white republicans
