Martin Frk (Love the name) LOL ( the Wings first pick in the 2nd round)

The Detroit Red Wings had a pretty boring first day of the 2012 NHL Draft. They didn't have a first-round pick, and they weren't involved in any draft-day trades. Their first-rounder was traded away last season for defenseman Kyle Quincey, so they had to wait until the second day for their first pick of 2012.

On Saturday, in the second round of the draft, the Red Wings used their first pick (the 49th overall selection) to select Martin Frk, a right-winger from the QMJHL's Halifax Mooseheads. Frk is from the Czech Republic and is a 6-foot-0, 198-pound forward.

Frk has been with Halifax the past two seasons. In 2010-11, he played in 62 games and recorded 22 goals and 28 assists for 50 points. Last season, he had 16 goals and 13 assists for 29 points in only 34 games played. He also scored five goals and had 11 assists in 17 playoff games this past season.

Barring a trade, the Red Wings will go back on the clock with the 80th overall pick. They also are currently scheduled to use the 110th, 140th, 170th and 200th overall picks.

4th round pick..... The Detroit Red Wings selected forward Andreas Athanasiou from OHL London with their third pick, 110th overall in the fourth round, at the NHL entry draft at the Consol Energy Center.

Athanasiou (6-2, 165) had 22 goals and 37 points in 63 games last season. Kid needs to hit the weights!!!!

JAMES DE HAAS 6th round pick... 6'2 197....

The Detroit Red Wings' fifth pick on Saturday was another defenseman. For the second straight round, the Red Wings went with defense, this time selecting James De Haas.

De Haas, who is from Ontario, has played in Toronto the past three seasons. In 2011-12, he was with the Toronto Lakeshore of the OJHL. He scored 10 goals and had 19 assists for 29 points in 45 games. The two seasons before that, he was with the Toronto Marlboros of the GTHL.
