They just said on the morning news, I think on Fox 2, that there are rumors flying that Verlander might start tonight. Anyone here anything about this?

If Verlander starts tonight it won't be for Detroit, they play today.

:)

First of all, it's a day game at 1:05. I doubt Verlander pitches, he needs the extra day right now IMO and I'd rather see him pitch vs a tougher team in Tampa Bay tomorrow night. We do have Cleveland on the ropes though and a win today no matter who pitches would be huge.

TB, fine but JV is one guy who doesn't need an extra day off. He's their number one, you don't give your best an extra day. But people will praise him if it works just like they praised him last night.

First of all, sorry for the misspeak, yeah, it's day game. Wow, you guys were all over that. Second, I haven't heard anything since either. Sounds like someone just making it up as they go on the news.

He isn't getting an extra day off really.

He had all his starts mapped out from the final game of the season working backwards, to give him the most possible starts, and to make sure he pitched in as many important series as possible.

They got him in 3 out of 4 series with the Indians including the final game of the season, both the remaining series with the White Sox, and against Tampa Bay, who is the best team we will face the rest of the season.

JL does lots of stupid things, but the way he mapped out Verlanders starts was not one of them.

Plus this way, if we don't need him to make his final start on the final day of the season, Below or Turner can fill in and JV can get a bit of extra rest for the playoffs where he will likely be on 3 days rest.

Hopefully they get it locked down before then. It'd be great to see him get a little extra rest and allow Leyland to line up his staff exactly the way he wants to. They're all but guaranteed a first round matchup against one of two big AL East teams if they make it, so they need Verlander to pitch two games for sure.
