Has any pitcher ever won the MVP w/o winning the Cy Young?

Never happened since the inception of the CYA. Every P to win the MVP, has won the CYA.

Since last night's game:

Wins:
Verlander- 19
CC- 17

ERA:
Weaver- 2.10
Verlander- 2.28
Beckett- 2.46

Strikeouts:
Verlander- 212
King Felix- 185
CC- 184
Shields-180

He is close to the MLB pitching triple crown.

Wins
Verlander 19
Sabathia 17

Strikeouts
Verlander 212
Kershaw 199

ERA
Cueto 1.89
Weaver 2.10
Verlander 2.28

Cueto has 9 fewer start than Justin. I expect a battle between Weaveer and Verlander for the MLB ERA lead. I think Cueto will have one more blown up start and he will be outta the race.

ERA:

King Felix- 195
Shields- 192
CC- 191

CC is not scheduled to pitch until 8/29, but who knows with the hurricane
Weaver goes tonight vs. Texas. Hope the Rangers shell him.

Weaver would have to give up 9 earned in 3 2/3 to get to 2.40 (JV is at 2.38). Not likely but I guess funnier things have happened.

Fuck....Inge made an all-star team.

August 29 (morning) update: Weaver rocked last night. CC scheduled to go tomorrow now. He's pushed back a day after the Hurricane.

Wins:
JV-20
CC-17

JV-2.38
Beckett- 2.43

I find it amusing that Beckett gave up 4 runs in 7 innings and only of the links on ESPN's main page says "Beckett Sharp" with the title of the article as "Beckett rises to the occasion - again"

Hal Newhouser is the only Tiger pitcher to win the Triple Crown. In 1945, he led the league with 25 wins, 212 Ks, and a 1.81 ERA.

Last AL Triple Crown Winner: Johan Santana in 2006.

Last NL Triple Crown Winner: Jake Peavy in 2007.

To be fair, when JV gave up 4 in 6 this weekend, the articles on ESPN generally just lauded him for getting 20 wins.

Here is the Sept. 3 update:

Wins:
JV-21
CC- 18

ERA:
Weaver- 2.28
JV- 2.34
Beckett- 2.54

Ks:
JV-224
King Felix- 204

Shields- 199
