Waived players

Jason Vargas might be nice bulpen help. He is not that good, but he could be a steady option (he could also replace Porcello or Penny if they really wanted to do that with him).

I always liked Chen from KC. He isnt great but can shut a team down when he is on.

The only team Chen shuts down is the Tigers....

Teams put almost everyone on waivers at some point during August. Various reasons for doing it. Red Sox put Carl Crawford on today.
because someone placed on waivers doesn't mean team wants to trade. For example, Braves put McCann on yesterday.
Besides Upton, some other players who went on waivers yesterday: Liriano, Slowey, Perkins, Nathan, League.
Also on waiver wire today: Danks, Floyd, Konerko, Thornton of White Sox. With Chicago 6 1/2 out.
danny knobler.
