"Shortstop Stephen Drew has agreed to a one-year contract with the Boston Red Sox, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney."

"The deal calls for a $9.5 million salary and $500,000 in performance bonuses, the sources said."

Bosux won't very likely be contenders, but they might be able to compete for 3rd or 4th in the AL East, ahead of perhaps the Yankees and/or the O's, the latter if they return to being a shitty 90 loss+ team. Baltimore hasn't made very much noise in the off-season so far, and the Yankees still have weaknesses or holes in the OF and IF, including catcher. They are counting on quite a few aging, injured, and declining players on the field and on their pitching staff.

Same thing that I read online from Bosux fans when the Tigers signed Prince and Anibal. Sbee313 from the old ESPN Tigers messageboard who didn't also move on after the last reformat, used to post that there was no such thing as a bad one year contract, for what it is worth.

But Drew cannot hit anymore and his defense is not very good. And about 1 year contracts, how about 2014 - would you want Peralta for 9.5m and be okay with it? Because Drew is not better than Jhonny P.

BTW, op. Expect the Yankees to compete as usually and the Bluejays with all there moves to still fight for 4th.
