Congratulations to ......the MICHIGAN WOLVERINES for their win over #8 ranked Wisconsin 14-7 this past Saturday. Based on the sloppy kicking game and a more defensive-oriented contest than most expected, nobody really came that close to the score. So props to Tinselwolverine for his prediction of a 7pt win and nailing the margin of victory and honorable mention to atxlion82 for predicting a closer, lower scoring game overall and calling the feel for the outcome pretty well.

On to New Jersey State University, aka Rutgers....

At some point during the off-season and based largely on the vast number of Jersey Boys choosing MICHIGAN over the instate program, folks around Rutgers wanted to make people believe that MICHIGAN and the Scarlet Knights were "rivals." But outside the primary uniform color of Red and a coach with ties to Ohio State, there really is no basis for rivalry, insofar as the term typically applies.

Of course the Harbaugh-lead Wolverines will bring out the best in every team, as every program in the BigTen "circles" the MICHIGAN game. But on paper, this game and the match up is less a "rivalry game" and more likened to a small kid on the playground talking tough in front of his classmates, hoping the bully in the yard doesn't make an example right there.

Coming into this weekend's match up with a record of (2-3), the Scarlet Knights boast wins over Howard and New Mexico State but in the two games against ranked opponents - week 1 vs Washington and last week vs Ohio State - the Jersey Boys were outscored by a combined 106-13 and field one of the more porous defenses in the Conference.

Conversely, the #4 ranked and unbeaten Wolverines come off an impressive, hard fought win over the then #8 Wisconsin and have a win over the now #21 ranked and much more impressively thought of Colorado Buffaloes.

Las Vegas likes MICHIGAN and presumably what if any mafia influence that might remain couldn't fix this game. With an Over/Under of 53 Total Points, MICHIGAN is a four score favorite at MICHIGAN -28. (**EDIT UM-30 as of Sat am)

One late developing consideration for Saturday's game is the potential weather impact Hurricane Matthew might present for the East Coast (sounds familiar, doesn't it Maryland?) and whether or not the game conditions might be less than ideal for both squads. But even if it does rain, you can once again expect the 42,000 seat New Jersey State University football stadium decked out in Maize and Blue and resemble more a neutral site crowd than a home game for Rutgers.

So go ahead and post your score predictions with some supportive analysis if you wish, but leave the woofing and barking for other threads.

Michigan 62
Rutgers....7

Rutgers score comes in garbage time or on a fluke bounce at some other point.

Rutgers can't pass. They were 3/16 for 33 yards against OSU. They are completing 47% of their passes on the year. They can't lean on a running game, because our d-line will devour it. They SUCK.

Motivation for this kind of line, now MICHIGAN -30, is sometimes hard to find or seems contrived. Given what happened two years ago and the offseason 'banter' about satellite camps and all else, I have a feeling Harbaugh has been quietly at work getting this team mentally prepared to go on the road and lay the smack down. Rutgers comes out all fired and Fist Pumpin' Like Champs ...maybe even runs some trick play, but that's all they will have. Edit: Due to Weather, revised prediction to...

MICHIGAN - 38
Rutgers - 9

Little Vic says ...Well, we have a pretty good Defense, so...

Michigan wins handily but not quite as handily as expected in its first road game of the season.
