Game 6: Lions @ Falcons Thread

Was a big win. One win closer to super bowl run..gave themselves a chance

yes...it was a win. I was making fun of LKP's assessment that it was a big win.

Atlanta is a team that?s probably a little better than their record. Like Chicago is worse then theirs.

It also depends on your definition of ?big?. As far as opponent....not at all. But that was a game where we actually snatched victory from defeat....and that IS big.

After 10 more games.....it likely won?t matter at all. But after 6 games....and the fact that more teams make the playoffs this year.....I?d say it?s a big win.

AP is holding this offense back. Kerryon is a better version of him at this point in his career. How coaches can't see that is fucking amazing.

Swift should get 65% of touches. AP should be short yardage and KJ the backup and pass pro specialist.

Zero reasons for it to be any different at this point.

Lions have 7 total rushing TDs in 6 games. They had 7 total in 16 games in 2019. Big improvement

5 picks in 6 games this year. 7 picks total last year.

I Now gather that you agree with me that the only objective for the Lions and for any NFL team each season is to win the Super Bowl?

There are many ways for success. Ultimate of course for any team is to win Super Bowl. but you can have good seasons without that.

I think every team has different goals. I think a team/franchise as pathetic as the Lions have been, their main goal would be to make the playoffs. Good teams (perennial playoff contenders) have higher goals such as winning the SB.

We get you hate the Lions and you have bias against them. Try a new schtick

I disagree. Each season is Tabula Rasa upon which only three words can be inscribed: Super Bowl Champions.

The rest is conversation. Teams have won Super Bowls after previously immediately dismal seasons. And a lot of mediocre teams have won Super Bowls, and definitely appeared in them.

Still early but looks like a tough road to the playoffs right now. Not enough parity in the NFC this year, I could definitely see both wild card spots coming out of the NFC West.

I think there are 3 wildcard teams this year

Yes there are 3 wild card teams. only top seed gets a bye.

Detroit needs to take care of business. they have the head to head over Cardinals. Could get it over Bucs still and tie up the Bears and/or Packers in game 2 rematches (Bears or Packers would need another division loss though and Pack/Bears happen twice).

Lions can take out the Panthers themselves. So its Lions/Packers/Bears/Saints/Bucs/NFC West. NFC East won't be a wild card factor. Three of those teams get division winners. So it leaves 5 teams plus Lions for 3 spots. Lions are very much back in this race. Seattle losing to Arizona hurt though. Rams/Bears game can go either way. Bears starting to lose playing Rams, Saints, Titans upcoming is a good thing though. Puts them at 4 losses really quick with a game to play the Lions and two against the Packers.

We should go on that small win streak over the next month. Hopefully that momentum carries into the back half that has much tougher competition.

Oline is playing great in run block and imo is giving stafford plenty of time.

WRs are having a hard time creating seperation still...the good news is Golladay doesnt need any. Thats why hes not a top5 WR imo. Not sure if hes just slow or runs bad routes but dude rarely gets open....amazing hands in traffic so he doesnt need it. But hes not Michael Thomas. hes not Davante Adams. Hes not Julio Jones (even with a bad hammy).

Defense Much improved but we still need a handful of invidviduals to step up. Okwara putting together a string of great weeks in a row. But where the hell is Flowers?...crazy enough the last 2 weeks the only time i heard his name called is when he was in coverage lol (or landed on a fumbe). Shelton, Williams, Pensini, Hand doing a better job stopping the run. Secondary is still atrocious when we dont create pressure. Holes in zones everywhere. Every time we're in man its scary and 90% of the time someone trips and a guy is wide open. Tackling has been much better. Safety blites have been ineffective...walker runs straight into a dlineman and stops everytime.

Flowers part of that run D and had a big sack last week. Always want more consistent pressure from him. Flowers grades as 6th best edge defender in PFF. He is doing something right. Flowers isn't the flashy DE but he wasn't brought on to be that. Walker has a good blitz grade to in 12 blitzes too. Okudah is young but continues to progress. Roberts is a backup and didn't have a good game. Cant' wait to get Coleman back. And Trufant who knows, didn't look great when he did play in the 3/4 and 1/2 game he played. Might as well just ride with Okudah/AO so they can continue to grow. Trufant cap cut next year.

R Okwara back to 2018 form a little better. Needed someone to step up and he has. Hand, Shelton, Penisini, Williams doing the dirty work. The 3 DT method is working for run defense.

Patricia made the moves, 3 DT, more blitzes, more zone. Falcons started to figure out the zone and Juilo/Ridley are just really good too. Hurst solid TE too. I look forward to Lions defense against Colts and Vikings offense. Though those team still have talent to put up some points. Glad defense doing enough to get wins now. All Stafford needs is a little defense, doesn't have to be all world.

Colts have a good defense but their offense is lacking and missing some WRs (Pittman/Campbell). Lions need to keep the momentum going and force some turnovers on Rivers.

Agreed Oline doing a good job. Can make another play or 2 to make things easier but they have faced some good players (Cam Jordan/Saints front 7, Zadarius Smith, Khalil Mack, Grady Jarrett). Couple big penalties too. Decker and Ragnow good. Vaitai and Jackson solid. Crosby above average so far and a nice surprise. Dahl the backup now but playing well too so there is some depth at RT/guards/center

And number 9 needs to continue to play like he did this week. Great throws, decisions and pocket presence
