Sullivan Named Women's Big Ten Coach of the Year
2/28/2023 5:58:00 PM
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan director of track and field and cross country Kevin Sullivan was named the women's Big Ten Coach of the Year as part of the conference's announcement of its men's and women's indoor track and field championships award winners on Tuesday (Feb. 28).

Sullivan led the Wolverines women's track and field team to its first Big Ten Championships team title since 2016. The conference title also is his first as program director. Under Sullivan's guidance, the Wolverines took home a collective seven individual event titles, scoring in 14 of 18 event finals. Michigan ended the championships with 109 points while the men's team ended in sixth with 54 points.

U-M set five school records were set during the women's championships (200m, 400m, 4x400, triple jump and 60m) and one Canadian record (Savannah Sutherland, indoor 400m). Currently, sixteen athletes on the 2022-2023 roster hold school records.

Meanwhile, Sutherland and Cole Johnson were named Michigan's Sportsmanship. The pair were chosen for their academic standing and demonstrations of sportsmanship both in and outside of a sports-competition setting. Both are now candidates for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, as the conference will honor one male and one female student from each school at the end of the school year.
