**DRS = Defensive Runs Saved for Outfielders include HR Saving Catches. It is hard for a LFer in BOS to leap the Green Monster. Or a CFer in ARZ. So this metric is highly suspect.
Outfield defense isn't about making errors. It is about getting to the balls. Limiting balls from being a double, triple or inside the park HR. It is about having a good enough arm to keep runners from trying to take the extra base. Some are enamored with Outfield Assists. If player A has a so-so arm, and 40 players try to take an extra base and 10 get thrown out, he has 10 Assists. If player B, in similar events, only has 20 players try to take an extra base, and he throws out 10, he also has 10 assists. Yet, most fans just based on the quantity of assists, thing they have the same arm. There are some outfielders, you just don't run on. J.D. Martinez and Nick Castellanos are not it that class.
RFers need to keep balls from getting the hitter an extra base. It isn't "misplaying" the balls that are the problem, it is poor routes and/or poor lateral movement. Once to the ball, they need to keep runners on base from taking extra bases, especially 3B. The longest throw to make is the one from RF to 3B. But it is also about hitting the cut-off man with accurate throws. Having a cannon that routinely over shoots the mark isn't helpful.
A poor RFer can easily add up to 10 additional earned runs to a starting pitcher over the course of 32-34 starts. Maybe not all of a team's starting pitchers will get 10 additional earned runs, but all will be affected.
Having Christin Stewart and Nick Castellanos in the outfield together, whether 2018, 2019 or whenever, is extremely stupid and shortsighted. LF is a more easier OF position as a whole to play. Why did the Tigers put Nick in RF?
