1971: The Tigers tie a major-league record by using six pinch hitters in the 7th inning, but lose 6 - 5 to the Yankees anyway.

1984: Cal Ripken's 1st-inning error lets in Alan Trammell with a run, and that's it as the Tigers beat Baltimore 1 - 0. Juan Berenguer is the winner with Willie Hernandez picking up his 28th save. Mike Flanagan goes all the way in the loss. Detroit's magic number is now 15.

1995: Cal Ripken ties Lou Gehrig's all-time mark by appearing in his 2,130th consecutive game.

Manager Brad Ausmus' job appears to be in real jeopardy after the Tigers, who were predicted by most to win the AL Central recently fell into last place.

The Tigers are expected to seek a starting pitcher and an outfielder in free agency. Yoenis Cespedes remains on their radar, though his hot spell since going to Queens may have moved him out of their price range.
