The way I read it, is He has 364 plate appearances as of now. He needs 502 to be Qualified.
so is 138 P.A. reachable in 41 games? would moving him up in the lineup to 2nd help?

He needs to average 3.365 plate appearances if he plays every game to the end of the season. Even if say he sits 2/3 games he would probably needed to average 3.5 PA to the end of the season. Right now he is off the top of my head 35 to 40 points ahead of the leading qualifiers for the Batting Title. I think unless, God forbid, he gets hurt again, he will win it.

Funny you would post this as I go through the Tigers baseball sites and found these at bybtb.
Timing is everything, so I will post them here too.

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera is having a historic season in 2015.

Miggy is in a Class of a select few All-Time Greats as a Hitter.

I never thought I would see another Tigers player who was a better all-around hitter than Kaline. Al has said, Miggy is the best Tigers hitter in all his years with the Tigers. That statement includes Kaline.

Just like when Al was injured and missing games, and this summer Miggy missing the six weeks, the games weren't the same for me, and maybe some of you guys. A great hitter was missing from the lineup.
Watching such great professional hitters that are on the team we live and die with is such a treat, I/we are spoiled. The day Miggy retires will be a sad day for this old Tigers fan.

I've got 367 right now...303 ab's 61 walks 2 hbp and 1 sac???

I believe how it works is 3.10 per game ave..Tigers have completed 121 games thus far, that would put it at 375 right now is what he'd need to be at to qualify for the leader board again...8 short..I'd estimate he'll be back on the leader board after the next 7-8 games

Thanks Man.Just like Miggy, your Class all the way.

which Class, has yet to decided. lol

385 PA with 37 games to go. Easily within reach of 502. Miggy has been averaging 4.4 PAs per game this year. That averages to 27 games. That is just to reach 502 threshold. He could go 0-40 right now and win the batting title.

damn, thanks!

Would love to see him get another batting title.

Would be nice to salvage SOMETHING from this season.

My positive takeaways so far in 2015.....

1. JD Martinez......legit big time middle of the order hitter.
2. JV may have one last run of productivity left.
3. A Cabrera batting title?

That's it.

For me it's JD and the possibility that Iggy may be a better hitter than I thought. Of course he has been bad in August...but that happens.

As bad as the pitching has been, the offense is just as bad after Cabrera, Kinsler, J.D. and Nick since the break. Those walk rates are beyond terrible. And it isn't just one or two players. We will never wear down an opposing pitcher who is on their game at those rates.

That's a good one too.....it falls more in the line of my positive, but with ???'s category with others like.....

1. Is Alex Wilson for real? Can he do it again in '16?
2. Is the recent hot streak of Castellanos a sign of things to come or just a hot streak?
3. Can McCann improve enough on a solid rookie year to be a legit every day C?
4. Is Iggy a legit .280-.300 hitter?
5. Can Kinsler carry this tear into next year?

Things like that. There have been a few small positive things about this year.....but most of them raise as many questions as answers.

Of all of those guys the one that is really killing them is Victor.

Also, there is rule 10.22(a): If he doesn't reach 502, if adding the number of missing plate appearances as no hit at bats keeps his average the highest in the league he would still win the batting title.

So if he finishes with 482 plate appearances they would give him an 0-20 added on to his totals (502 total plate appearances), and if he still has the highest average after that he would win the batting title.

I think most of us already knew that. Hence why I included 0-40.

502 PA comes from 162 games x 3.1 Plate Appearances.

A player is on the Batting Average Leader board if he qualifies with 3.1 PAs per the number of games his team has played.

Currently. DET has played 125 games. 3.1 x 125 = 387.5 PA Miggy is at 385 PAs, or 3 PAs short of qualifying. In about 2-3 more games played, he should be back at the top of the list.

Kipnis currently leads with .324 BAVG. Miggy is at .371 BAVG.

If he goes
0-40 = .330 BAVG
0-45 = .325 BAVG

Looks like he's on pace to win another one, whether he gets to 502 or not.

But it looks like he's on pace to get to 502 anyway.
