Rangers @ Tigers 8-23-2015 Game 123

So...is this when we call it? The official time of death for the season?

Call it now, call it early or late July. It's over. Pitchers on the DL later than they should have been. Sanchez saying he had this problem for past 2/3/4 months. No wonder he was getting hammered, home runs allowed. Greene complained of numbness/tingling maybe 2 weeks ago or longer I don't remember. Boyd's innings will be watched, Norris' would have been also, then he strains his oblique. Price traded. A team is only as good as their pitching, All we have now is Verlander and 4 question ????marks and a horseshit bullpen.
Too many teams to climb over for the wildcard. Throw as much out there now and with Septemeber callups to know what they have in certain players, who to keep, who to ship out if they can.
They haven't had more than a 3 game winning streak since first 2 weeks in April so yeah it's over.

yup....the minute they traded Price and YC it was over. Probably before that but that was the point when it was official.

STREAKS AND STATS:

In the last nine times that Cabrera has reached base, he has not scored once.
Miguel Cabrera's two singles gives him a lifetime .727 batting average against Cole Hamels over 12 plate appearances.

James McCann tripled in the fourth inning, marking the fourth triple of the season for the Tigers catcher. It's the most triples by a Tigers catcher since Alex Avila had four in 2011, Brandon Inge's four-triple season, and Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez had five in 2005 and four in 2006.

Blaine Hardy gave up a home run in the eighth inning, ending his scoreless streak without allowing a homer. He went 87 games and 84 2/3 innings between home runs. It was the second-longest active streak in appearances at the major league level for any pitcher.

In the fifth inning Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre was ejected from the game by home plate umpire Adam Hamari for arguing calls and strikes. Then Rangers manager Jeff Banister went out to talk to Hamari to find out why. At that point he had not yet been ejected. Beltre continued to quibble with first base umpire Ron Kulpa from the top step of the dugout. Banister went to calm him down and was subsequently ejected when he left the dugout to argue with Kulpa as well.

I would like to believe the Tigers might end up with ceps back next year, any chance of that happening

Unless they decide to go way over the luxury cap next season, I doubt. They need much more than an OF to compete..

Maybe they can sign him, Price and Soria. They could be a .500 team.

Just wish someone would run away with that 2nd wildcard already.

As bad as we've been, we are still only 5 games out. What's not to understand?

Tigers chances of missing the post season: 95%. Source: Baseball Prospectus. Tigers have to play ABOVE .650 for the rest of the season and hope that the NONE of the SIX teams in front of them get as hot ... AND ... one of the two teams in the WC as of today HAVE to tank like the Tigers did in 2009.

There is no chance.

To get to 85 wins

KCR 10-29 .256

TOR 16-22 .421

HOU 16-21 .432

NYY 17-22 .436

TEX 21-18 .538

MIN 22-16 .579

LAA 22-16 .579

BAL 23-16 .590

TBR 23-15 .605

DET 26-13 .667

DET opened the season 23-16, which included 11-2 start. In their last 39 games, they have gone 16-23 .410 WPCT, just ahead (1/2 game) of BOS and OAK at 15-23 for the worst record in the AL.

DET is 41-53 .436 since May 7th, the worst in the AL. Coincidentally, or maybe not, that is also when Avila went on the DL. DET was 18-11 at that point.

Record since May 7th:

KCR 57-38 .600
TOR 55-40 .579
TEX 52-43 .547
NYY 50-44 .532
LAA 50-45 .526
HOU 50-46 .521

BOLD
is current playoff teams. LAA is tied for 6th in the Wild Card. So the top 6 record since May 7th are also the top 6 teams competing for the 5 playoff spots.

No good stretch in the last 100+ games.. Zero chance to make the playoffs. They could have 5 teams in front of them or 1 team, they're not passing anyone. They are not a good team. Same roster next year and they win 70 games..

C'mon, Mitch ... the Tigers COULD win the rest of their games and sweep through the playoffs undefeated.

All we need is a 9-1 stretch!!!!!!!

33-41 .446 vs .500 or better teams

26-21 .531 vs less than .500 teams

39 games left

24 vs .500 or better teams

15 vs less than .500 teams

My conservative projection is 19-20.

FYI...when they started 11-2, 7 of those games were against current teams better than .500. They went 6-1, meaning they have gone 27-40 .403 against teams .500 or better since then and have gone 21-20 .512 against teams less than .500.
