Cameron Maybin said Sunday he planned to try to give it a go Monday night. When he said that, though, his sprained left thumb was wrapped and still swollen. It still appears to be an issue, since he’s out of the lineup once again.
Asked Sunday if this has lingered longer than he expected when he injured it last Wednesday, he said, “Much longer. Now I’m slightly annoyed at this point. It’s part of playing the game hard and playing the game the way I play, but it’s a little annoying, especially with where we are right now. Especially like now, you feel good, you’re playing well, helping the team, everybody’s gotta do their part, but I feel like I’m a big part.
“I don’t like to use the word frustrated too much, but sometimes you gotta play through some pain or a lot of pain, but I’m just trying to make sure I’m good for my guys because I feel like I make a pretty big impact when I’m in the lineup.”

With Maybin out, Tyler Collins gets another in center. He’ll face Mariners starter Hisashi Iwakuma for the first time. Left-handed hitters are batting .288 (74-for-257) off Iwakuma this season with nine home runs and a .780 OPS. Perhaps more surprising, Iwakuma has given up 10 home runs in as many starts at Safeco Field this year, though he has allowed only one home run in his last four home starts.

All that sets up a potentially friendly opener for Victor Martinez, 6-for-15 off Iwakuma for his career. He’s batting .373 (19-for-51) over his last 15 games with two homers and nine RBIs (thanks, MLB Network research). Miguel Cabrera, 4-for-10 with two homers off Iwakuma, is batting .429 (27-for-63) over his last 17 games with seven homers and 21 RBIs.

Detroit Tigers center fielder Cameron Maybin will miss his fourth consecutive start Monday with a sprained thumb that continues to give him trouble.
Tyler Collins will start in Maybin's place Monday night in the opener of a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field.
Maybin said he would get an MRI or CT scan Tuesday morning to check on the progress (or lack thereof) of his thumb's healing.
He suffered the injury on Wednesday while diving for a ball in the outfield. An X-ray taken after the game showed no structural damage.
Maybin took batting practice Monday and still experienced pain.
"I could still hit. But hitting in BP is not the same as in the game and I was feeling some pain today," Maybin said. "So it'd be smart to get a picture. I was going to try and play through it but just don't think I can, as bad as I want to."

Sure hope Casey McGehee can keep hitting like he has been in Toledo.... We really need him to step up because we already know what we got with Aviles and Romine...

I hate 10PM games. I won't watch a pitch.

And I had just assumed game three would be earlier at least, but nope Thursday off so all three of these are 10:10 starts. Bleh.. I can't stay up as late as in previous years either, about 3 ...maybe 4 innings each night for me is about it

Seattle scores two in the second double play limits the damage, fulmers command wasn't great there.

Bending but not breaking him, few good swings but not enough to show for it so far, other than Kza who just stood there and took a bunch of strikes in the 2nd.. bout it for me tonight..out

Bats wasting another decent pitching effort by a starter .

Fudge Greene mows down first two guys easy then gives up az double and a single for a run :/

No hitting in the last two games in losses sadly. Only good news is we only lost a half a game to the tribe. Hate wasting two really great pitching performances though.
Hopefully after a good night's sleep we can regroup tomorrow!!!
