No Miguel Cabrera in the Tigers lineup tonight as he deals with a left biceps strain. Brad Ausmus said he had to convince Cabrera that an day of caution was the best course. Jarrod Saltalamacchia starts at first base over Andrew Romine. Tyler Collins starts in center against left-hander Danny Duffy, but he?ll bat ninth in the lineup. Essentially, it?s a start for defensive purposes, though Mike Aviles is 5-for-18 off Duffy. Casey McGehee moves up to second, as he did Saturday against Cole Hamels.
The Royals lineup has a lot of history against Justin Verlander. His 30 strikeouts of Alex Gordon are the most by any active pitcher against an active player in the Majors at this point, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

Thank god we got rid of Aviles. Sent to Atlanta for Erick Aybar. Anything is better than Aviles.

Aybar is basically a SS only. So, does this mean there is more to Iggy's injury?

Thought the same thing

Aybar is making $8.5 Mil this year. I realize DET isn't paying all of that. But you don't trade for a $8.5 Mil SS to "experiment" him being a utility player or just to be the backup SS. There has to be more.

As much as we all hated Aviles, this deal only makes sense if Aybar is the starting SS from here in out. Scivicque was an OK catching prospect. Nothing special, but supposedly a defensive whiz.

Detroit Tigers: Is Jose Iglesias SS of Future? Injuries Cast Doubt.
Tigers might be concerned more than before of Iggy's durability.

Isnt he in the last year of his contract ? So they arent trading for a 8.5 million dollar SS , they are gonna have to pay a fraction of that . He's a much better bat off the bench than Aviles would be , is a switch hitter and can play a good SS . Sounds more like insurance for Iggy and upgraded bench to me .

Aybar is well below average defensively at SS (20th of 30 in UZR/150 since 2014). He is certainly better than Aviles at SS, but he isn't even average.

And while better than Aviles offensively, he is also at the bottom in that department as well (23rd of 33 in RC+ since 2014).

I wish the fans would BOOOO Upton more and louder , he just walks back to the dugout blowing bubbles like hoo humm , no big deal .

Iglesias seems to be Carlos Guillen 2.0. Both seem to be made of glass.

Hopefully the injury to Iglesias isn't serious as it's hard to replace his defense and he's been productive with the bat.

Stranding a leadoff double without advancing even 1 base is terrible, but typical for this team.

This is going to be a long night against Duffy with this lineup. Good grief. We need a solo HR and JV to pitch a shutout.
