How does the first base ump call that a catch to begin with.. Have a feeling tigers are gonna get screwed on this..

Sox got messed over. JD went back to first on his own. Farrell should have protested on general principle. MeGehee should have been out as well. EDIT: The umpires totally inverted this ruling. JD is immediately out for passing McGehee, who was tagged. Double play.

And this precisely why I hate replay.

If the ump called the batter out because he thought the OF caught it, all bets are off. That is exactly why they should have replay.

But the batter was not out and the play continued. That was the actual outcome. So you have to apply the actual rule to the letter. Martinez passed McGehee and MeGehee was tagged out.
 
Pretty light action on the board today which is not uncommon for day games.

I'm able to watch the game today on the MLB network, but for whatever reason I'm getting the Red Sox broadcast team.

Mechanics. Second-base umpire was in the slot. First-base umpire was closest to the play and responsible for all OF balls hit right of second base.

I thought Aybar was supposed to be a speedster - you really don't bring him from second on that base hit?

Wow I was speculating. (but most are pretty intuitive) Veach was based on his longevity and I knew he had numerous 100-rbi seasons.
