Avisail Garcia is on the block

He is one of the worst corner OFers in the league and serves no purpose for this team.
I haven't pulled his stats or followed him since he was traded away, but is he really that bad? I recall him being pretty fast, having a very good arm, and that he hit the ball hard. What are the holes in his game? I'd guess plate discipline and glove maybe, but want to get your take.

A. Garcia last 3 years Away:

73.9 RC/650 .271 BAVG .317 OBP .402 SLG .719 OPS 19.2 PA/BB

Average MLB RF last 3 years Away:

76.7 RC/650 .255 BAVG .317 OBP .410 SLG .727 OPS 13.7 PA/BB

Slightly below average offense.

The issue is his -14.4 UZR/150

There are 40 MLB RFers that have at least 400 PAs away the last 3 years. Avisail is 36th of 40 for RC/650 + UZR/150.

Do you think that's a fair assessment given his short time in the league while bouncing to a couple teams, and being/playing hurt? Not being argumentative at all, just asking your thoughts. I'm inclined to think stats may not tell the whole story here, but I might be relying on the "eye test". He always looked like a good ballplayer with higher ceiling to me.

He isn't a patient hitter. Never was. The supposed power hasn't materialized. He hits lefty's well, but not righty's. So any stats or spurts in his stats need to be considered what type of pitching he faced during that spurt.

2010 Away (252 PAs)

.251 BAVG .298 OBP .307 SLG .605 OPS 17.9 PA/BB

2011 Away (259 PAs)

.227 BAVG .255 OBP .336 SLG .591 OPS 36.9 PA/BB

2012 Away (318 PAs)

.253 BAVG .292 OBP .389 SLG .681 OPS 28.8 PA/BB

2013 Away (247 PAs)

.329 BAVG .368 OBP .506 SLG .874 OPS 17.6 PA/BB

2014 Away (113 PAs)

.252 BAVG .319 OBP .437 SLG .756 OPS 16.1 PA/BB

2015 Away (294 PAs)

.262 BAVG .310 OBP .351 SLG .661 OPS 20.9 PA/BB

He was fully healthy in 2015, no? 2013 was definitely an outlier and helped by his stats from Toledo that year.

The Detroit media fooled fans into thinking he was the next Miguel Cabrera. Where in his stats does suggestion like that come? He might physically look like a younger Miguel. That is all.

Thanks as always. I "think" he's still better than the stats would say, and still has good upside, but there isn't a lot of good basis for that thinking other than seeing positives when I watched him play. Good question on 2015... I believe he tore up his shoulder in 2014 and had late or offseason surgery, but don't know the exact timeline or when he was 100% again. I seem to recall he had some foot issues too. Maybe plantar fasciitis or heel problems or something like that when he was with the Tigers. Didn't go searching and might be confusing him with someone else who was here recently.

Right heel contusion in March of 2013. Out the first month of the season. 2013 was his best year as a player.

He tore his labium in early April of 2014 and he was fully recovered and activated from the DL at the beginning of August (4 months). He went on to have his 2nd biggest year as a player.
