WILL THEY OR WON?T THEY?

The Hot Stove season is starting to get, well, hotter??.. The San Diego Padres just traded for Blake Snell and Yu Darvish.

And the Tigers just signed?. Jose Urena and Dustin Garneau.

Are you surprised? Disappointed? Resigned?

And are you pointing your finger at Al Avila?

Maybe that finger ? the index one, of course ? should be pointing elsewhere.

To ownership.

THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH.

What a tough time to be a Tiger fan.

It?s Year 6 or 7 of a rebuild, depending on your math. We are a week away from closing down January with 20 Thoughts. But I would like to scratch an itch that has been driving me a little crazy.
It?s the state of the rebuild. Assuming it has started.
Is there anything we can hang our hat on for the upcoming season?
The answer is yes. And for our sanity, it would be therapeutic to discuss it.

If Detroit Tiger fans need any more proof that the owner has slammed that wallet shut, here it is. Shane Greene just signed with the Atlanta Braves to help them with their struggling bullpen. They are paying him app. $1.2 mill.

Meanwhile, the Tigers have MLB's worst bullpen by far with a 6.58 ERA. Scraping the bottom of the barrel by recalling Joe Jimenez who is having a tough time in AAA and gave up a HR that cleared the stadium and landed on a residential street.

Possible he didn't want Detroit but yea....goodness.

right. Also, he was in Atlanta for the past 2 years...maybe he lives there.

I also have to wonder why nobody else signed this guy yet. Maybe he had offers and he really didn't want to play for those teams either. There are a lot of bad bull pens out there.

Certainly the entire MLBPA is aware that CI will not pay what other owners will. And with only two players on the roster (Cabrera and Grossman) with more than a one-year deal and seven FAs, the 2022 Tigers will be practically recycled. I can't imagine arbitration being contentious for those who qualify, no matter what level.
