The Good News 2017 Season

The Good News is Great news this day, Game 41.Tigers get the win 21-20.
Verlander got his 4th win with a 7 inning, 4 hit 3 run, 5 strikeout outing. Tigers bull pen got the job done with Hardy 1.0 1 K inning. Chad Bell 1.0 in the 9th gave him his 4th game, of scoreless pitching. In those 4 games 7.2 innings,4hits,3 walks,6 strikeouts, with a whip of 0.91. Finally got to pitch in a game the Tigers won. Let that happen more.

The offence got going early with Avila's 5th Homerun. Followed by Carbrera's 5th Homerun. And then J.D. Sixth Homerun! Now that's the way to run the bases. The only to follow that is for Castellanos to hit his 4th Homerun, a 3 run shot. Now that's a scoring them. Avila double his 7th his last seven days has been a hit machine. Five DOUBLES, the solid Homerun, two singles in 16 at bats gets him to .500. To go along with 3 runs, 5 RBI'S, 3 walks. That gives a .578 OBP. Nice 7 days. O by the way he had a cool put out in the 7th inning for the 3rd out. And went 3 for 3 as well hitting in the 2 spot. Kinsler and Castellanos had two hits. Kinsler 14 for 40 = .350 in his last 9 games.

And as all ways the Good News is great news with a Tiger win.
 
The Good News game 42. The Tigers fell to 21-21 that's .500 again. Pitcher Boyd failed to 6 innings again. Falling to .2-4. Even worst Tigers have lost his last 5 starts! Well at least Sanchez in the minor's getting ready.?

The Bull Pen pitched 3.2 innings of 1 run baseball. Green, A Wilson, Rodiguez all pitched scoreless. Hardy gave a run in the 9th.


Offence Kinsler hit a lead off homerun.
Twelve strikeouts by the Tigers were unmatched by The Rangers 5!

They need to swing at fewer pitches out of the strike zone,& make more contact of those in the zone. was posted before in post #100. And this game proves this fact. The good news is it is still early in the season. Enough games to left to right the ship.

Fulmer kept going with his 9 start of 6+ inning. That's 9 QS with a record 5-2 now. Thank you awful offense.
Green pitched a scoreless inning. In his last 10 games 11.2 ip 1 run for a 0.77 era. unbelievable Tigers record is 6-4 in those games. 3 of those losses Tigers scored THREE runs. The offence has to get better! Striking out FOURTEEN times can not be ok. Houston only K's 7 times. That's two games in a row Tigers have given more K's than gotten. 26 k's in the last TWO 2 games to 12 that's unexceptable. The offence has to make more contact.

It's time to go home and Stop being a bunch of whiffs.

The Good News game 44. The Tigers fell to 21-23.

Zimmerman pitch 6, three run innings. The 7th was the end giving another before getting an out. Charged with 2 earn runs. A Wilson pitched a hard 7th also giving a run. Saupoid pitched like well enough said.

Until the Tigers get better management this is about as good as it going to get. Next to close, reaching to get there.

The offence scored 6 runs on 8 hits and 4 walks, to get the 6 to 3 win. Doubles by Kinsler 6th,Iglesias 9th, Collins Tripler, Homerun Iglesias 2nd A two run shot. Iglesias 3 hits, Kinsler 2 hits.

Norris pitched 6.1 innings the most in the last 4 games, and only the 4th time in 9 games. Improvement is welcomed. Green got his 1st win pitching 1.2 innings. J Wilson pitched the 9th.
This is the Tigers 4th 4 game series. Most times 2-2 is good Tigers are 3-1, 2-1- postponed, 2-2, 1-2 pending.= 8-6. Verlander goes in the final. A win is needed and would be great, going into another 4 game series, CWS postponed from April 5th.Doing good with the 4 gamers so far. need to finish this one .Tigers have 3 more after the CWS one till the AS Break so got keep winning them. And need to win more 3 game series.
And as all ways the Good News is great news with a Tiger win.

Thank you, been having a little problem keeping up. My son gave me a set of Games of Thrones, it was missing the 4th season. Ebay fixed that. But we have been watching it as much as we can. Also gardening has been taking time. And a friend is selling out her Grandmother house. Been rummaging day in day out. And late games are hard these days.
 
The Good News game 46. The Tigers fell to 22-24.
Tigers got doubles from, Cabrera 6th, Iglesias 9th &11th, J. D. 1st. Homeruns J,D. 7th, Upton's 9th.
Pitching
Verlander gave an under performance outing. An ace needs to be better than 4-4, 4.87 ERA! I been saying the starters have to do better! An giving 6 runs was to much. Bull Pen did give up the winning run. But did a decent job, Hardy 1.0 Saupoid 0.1 no run relief. A Wilson took the lose giving a run in his last fourteen games!

Alex Avila hit his 6th homer. That will cover the high lights
The Good News tries to give good news when it can. The rest could be depends on how you take/see it.

The 1st game was postponed. Possible the best news.
Tigers could use some leadership. 8-2 something not running right. Boyd not going 5 innings again. Menp to Boyd your a starter.
Brad thanks for leaving Bell in till he got butchered. No wonder the bp gives runs.
Stone hands got his 10 error. Glad his bat hitting .220.

Collins designated, Presley up 1 for 3
Romine Triple 2nd, Doubles, Upton 9th, Presley 1st.
Saupoid 2.0 Leon 1.0 no runs innings.

Zimmerman confirm, complete bust.
Well we all wonder when the end will/would come. It might be now or around the corner.
With Verlander & Zimmerman not performing up to scale. The young guns miss firing and shooting blanks to many times. And the offence not firing most of the time Tigers are going to have reach in and find some get up and go within them selves.
One third of the season done changes got to be made! The good News is there still time to make them. The question is will they be made in time.
 
The Good News is Great news this day, Game 51. Tigers win the softball game 10-7, to get to 24-27.
Needless to say the offence carried the day. Cabrera 2 hits, 3 RBIs , JD blast # 8, 3 run shot. Presley & Iglesias scored 2 run apiece. Iglesias had 3 hits.

Pitching was a mixed bunch. Norris pitched 5.0 innings. Leaving ahead 6 to 3. Green came on in the 6th and fell apart. Hardy came on got them out of the inning. But damage was done 6 to 5 Tigers ahead. And sure enough the unthinkable happen. Frank was in a winnable game, 7-6 royals! Tigers 2nd rally got them ahead 10-7 for A Wilson to get the 8th, And J Wilson his 4th save.
Blind brad found a win after all. Guess he has missed that fail-rod does not pitch well with a lead!
And as all ways the Good News is great news with a Tiger win.
 
Good news for 5-30-2017, Verlander retains his effectiveness and value and is well-positioned to get a haul in return come the trade deadline.

$28M in 2018 & 2019. A team that is an ace short this year might bite.

And that is in contention and has players to offer without jeopardizing that. And that can afford Verlander. Narrows the field to about the Yankees.

I don't think the Yankees will add payroll.

Some teams with a relatively low payroll that are in contention

Rockies 33-21 $130M
Diamondbacks 32-22 $93M
Astros 37-16 $124M

You are right though...not many teams out there

D-Backs, IMO, would not be willing to part with good rostered players and they have nothing in the minors. Astros do not appear to need Verlander. Rockies are the best possibility of the three, but Coors PF might nullify Verlander's effectiveness.
 
Not to mention JV has 10-5 rights so he could squash any trade. He's a competitor obviously and wants to win but there are probably teams out there he'd rather not play for. Would not blame him one bit.

you are right...the teams that could use him are VERY limited.
 
I'd approach the Yankees and get ML players in return if for the only reason to do all I can to subvert DDs designs on a Red Sox WS. The Yankees dropped 30M in payroll from 2016.
