Game 49 Us vs Them May 27th(game 2)

Buck Farmer struck out 11, more than any other Detroit starter in 2017.
Farmer had made 32 appearances and eight starts in the big leagues before Saturday ? none remotely as impressive as this one.
Farmer allowed three singles, 2 walks in 103 pitches, and struck out a career-best 11, more than any other Detroit starter in 2017, in six shutout innings to help the Tigers snap their second three-game losing streak this week.
His arsenal expanded to include a true slider, change-up and curveball.
The two-seam fastball was still firm ? 92-94 mph ? with late movement.
That pitch, as well as his change-up, had the White Sox hitters flailing.
Farmer posted 22 swings and misses ? 12 on the fastball and 10 on the change-up, according to Baseball Savant.
The game ball for his first MLB win will be in his duffel on the trip back.

NOTABLE:
The Tigers have had two long scoreless streaks this week.
A 22-inning drought lasted Sunday through Tuesday and the 16-inning skid was Friday and Saturday in Chicago.

Tigers shortstop Dixon Machado had three singles, the first three-hit game of his career.

The only position player who didn't play during the doubleheader was outfielder Mikie Mahtook.

The Tigers only used two relievers, both in the second game.

Recently recalled center fielder JaCoby Jones started both games and went 1-for-8 with five strikeouts.

Reliever Arcenio Leon, also recalled before the game, warmed up but did not pitch.

John Hicks hit a solo home run.

Then in the seventh inning the Tigers loaded the bases for the fourth time on the day (two in the first game, two in the second).
This time J.D. Martinez plated a run on a sacrifice fly. Next, in a sign that perhaps the Tigers' luck was changing, Justin Upton struck out but reached first on a wild pitch that allowed another run to score.

ROARS:
Buck Farmer - the Mud Hens pitcher - did incredible work today over 6 1⁄3 innings. Whether it was because he was working with a familiar catcher in John Hicks, or because he was just that dialled in, Farmer put in the kind of show the Tigers have been hoping to see out of their starters.
It?s hard to say if Farmer might be considered for more than a spot start later on down the road, but he certainly didn?t hurt his odds with how he performed tonight, striking out 11 batters and keeping the White Sox scoreless.

Victor Martinez - without his one-run home run, the game would have gone into extra innings. Bless you, Victor, for saving us all from an ever longer day.

HISSES:
The bottom of the bullpen - doesn?t seem to matter who is pitching in the ninth, it seems like the Tigers simply cannot close out a game cleanly right now. After good work by Shane Greene, in the bottom of the ninth Justin Wilson lost the shutout, giving up three runs in the inning.

Everything else.

The Tigers drew 15 walks on the day, but none of those runners scored. Detroit stranded 12 in each game of the doubleheader.

Tigers expected to promote Alex Presley; Collins on block?
Detnews

Collins has been in a deep funk, both offensively and in the field.
In his last 20 games, including a three-strikeout performance in Saturday's 3-0 loss to the White Sox in Game 1 of a doubleheader,
Collins is 5-for-61 (0.81) with 30 strikeouts. He followed an 0-for-30 skid with a 2-for-26 slide and is hitting .200 on the season.
