That was when the game was played and managed as a game ... what do these players in the 1971 ASG have in common?

Steve Carlton, Manny Sanguillen, Rusty Staub, Steve Wise, Leo Cardinas, Dave Duncan, Bill Melton, Marty Pattin, Jim Perry, Sonny Siebert, Andy Messersmith and Wilbur Wood.

They did not play in the game.

From 1963 to 1982, the NL went 19-1.

Currently, the AL is 14-5-1 in the last 20 years.

AL in extra innings 1-10-1

1959-1962, there were 2 AS Games per season.


So when someone says Al Kaline has 18 All Star Appearances, you have to include the fact he was selected in two in 1959, 1960 and 1961.

The All-Star Game, a Midsummer fixture since 1933, became a double feature in 1959. Two games were scheduled to help give the players' pension fund a boost.
 
I hope Iggy gets a reserve spot. 5 Royals is still too much so I hope Altuve can pass Infante. Maybe with a little luck Cespedes can get that 3rd spot.

Always have. Both the base and the trade off paid to Texas.

But the solution to this team is not more top end contracts from aging players, it's to develop cheap young players.
