Happy Father’s Day!

Tigers are now 6.5 games back of the 1st place Royals and 3 games back of the last wild card spot. The Tigers sit in 10th place overall in the AL.

Tigers are in the midst of a 4 game losing streak thanks in large part to batting .197 while the starting pitchers have posted an 8.27 ERA in the last 4 games. Tigers are trying to avoid being swept for the 3rd time this season. Yankees have won 12 of their last 13 games at home (best streak since 2010). Yankees have scored 21 runs and have 31 hits including 8 home runs in the 1st 2 games of this series. They have scored 64 runs in the 1st inning this year, the most by any team in the Majors.

Sanchez is 1-3 with a 4.23 era in his 4 road starts this year. In his last 2 games Sanchez has gone 16 2/3 innings and allowed 8 hits and 0 runs, 2 walks and 14 strike outs. Sanchez held the Yanks to one run and one hit with eight strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings while not factoring into the decision in a 2-1 loss April 23. He’ll need a similar performance to keep the Yankees from leaving the yard and off the scoreboard.

Tanaka is 2-1 with a 4.50 era at home in his 3 starts. He started opposite Sanchez in his only meeting with the Tigers on April 23. He yielded one run and three hits in 6 2/3 innings but went on the disabled list with a strained forearm shortly thereafter. He is 2-1 with a 1.71 ERA in three starts since returning from his five-week layoff. Tanaka has limited right-handed hitters to a .172 average, and left-handers to a .234 average this season.

Tiger hitters aren’t very familiar with Tanaka and are a combined 6 for 27 (.222) against him. JD is 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and Cespedes is 3 for 7.

Yankee hitters are a combined 31 for 135 against Sanchez (.230).

Today's forecast in New York calls for cloudy skies and temps around 83 degrees around first pitch. There's a 20 percent chance for rain around 1 p.m. tonight.

Gregorius makes a 2 out error on the Cespedes ground ball. And JD makes them pay. 2 run bomb to left center. 4-0!!!

Sanchez with a clean 11 pitch 1st inning. But I feel like there's never a safe lead in this park.

Seems like we do better with Davis in the lineup. Not just against LHP either. He's held his own against righty's this year.

Gose, who is hitting .278, has just 11 hits and one extra-base hit in his last 78 at-bats (.158).

Please stay healthy VMart. It's probably our only chance to gain some consistency with the scoring runs on offense.

Omg I just want to tell you how freaking dumb our staff is...

you do not throw a damn 0-2 right down the damn middle...
Give up a rbi single to make it 6-2 now..

We are just one damn dumb team

He had that batter so fooled with slow stuff off the plate and on pitch 3 he throws
it right down the middle.. My god use the damn count idiots..

Useless trivia......last time the Tigers had two 1st inning home runs in Yankee Stadium was 1960...Frank Bolling and Rocky Colavito.

Why pitch the ball outside to Texeria and have the shift on?

Had McCann 0-2 and never even came close to punching him out..
