From a pure value perspective, this is pretty much a home run. 16 for 20 and 53 is a pretty good deal on its own. Getting rid of almost 6.5 million in cap space at the same time is huge. That obviously only worked because of Chychrun. A potential top 5 pick at one point tumbled down to our pick, making a trade down much, much more valuable. I am betting if Chychrun had gone at 15, we'd be looking at a totally different trade.

The big question mark is whether this really puts us in the front seat for one or more elite free agents. Stamkos is the ideal, but we still have some huge question marks on defense. If Chychrun defies the doubters and turns into the top 5 guys his talent suggested, while the Wings whiff in free agency, this will look like a serious desperation trade down the road.
