Link to article about Cruz's pseudo-philosophizing on the topic.

Link to Shatner tweet: "...to put a geocentric label on interstellar characters is silly"

Damn right. There's no way Kirk is a Repubitard. He's okay with all races, and even other species... and he's a thinking man. Spock and McCoy would not have worked with him if he was ranting about Right-Wing politics from the captain's chair. The Federation was basically a socialist society! They didn't even have money!

I still... what is Cruz thinking?

His voter base isn't into science fiction. NASCAR, monster trucks, Natty Light, Confederate flags, no taxes, gross income disparities... stick to the basics, Ned.

"Captain, we have detected no signs of intelligent life at this Tea Party rally."

Some feminist claimed that Captain Kirk was a sexual predator on another website's thread that I posted on. I disagreed, since the only woman who was proved to have sex with Kirk was the Native American-like squaw that he married and impregnated in one episode.

The only other episode that the Captain actually abused a woman was the one when he was split into two Kirks due to a transporter malfunction, one passive, one agressive, the latter who attacked Yeoman Janice Rand, she who successfully fought him off.

Shatner's character Denny Crane on Boston Legal was kind of a playuh.'

Maybe that's what she's talking about.

Isn't Shatner a sort of beatnik/Hippie refrain from back then? Just all pretty boy Hollywood ....TJ Hooker-style?!

Talk about a beacon of morality - TJ Hooker knew right from wrong.

I disagree that Star Trek was "not political" ... that was its motive power, IMO. That and Kirk getting squanked at least once an episode.

Roddenberry was certainly not apolitical himself, and Star Trek was his vision for humanity.

Still... it would be tough to imagine Star Trek happening if the GOP is still around, gutting space exploration budgets, cutting education funding, opposing evolution, etc. so it's a moot point.

Could you imagine Captain Kirk as a Republitard? He debate Spock's "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" line as he's dying, tell Uhura she's only on the crew because of Affirmative Action, refuse to beam down without a pay raise each time, oppose overtime/hazard pay for his crew, skirt OSHA regulations on the ship.

I think Kirk was a Democrat. He violated Star Fleet's non-intervention directive every week.

The Federation's Prosecuting Atty Shaw, who almost nailed her ex-bf Captain Kirk for a court martial.

Kirk had to let Edith Keeler get run over by a truck. Otherwise ...

Your name sounds vaguely Vulcan ...

Perhaps, but it actually is a mashup Stone Age/Native American name for a main character of a comic-book series that began in the early 60s, that became a popular PC-console role game. so now he is more modern and military-looking. The comic book series was one of my favorites as a kid, b/c it involved carnivorous dinosaurs in a Lost Valley:

Tell that to Teh Donald, who might go after Teddy in the upcoming RNC presidential primary debates.

Yeah they did. They mention credits a few times, like when Uhura buys that tribble.

from Star Trek IV:
Dr. Gillian Taylor: Don't tell me you don't use money in the 23rd Century.
Kirk: Well, we don't.

Plenty of examples of the movies not matching TOS (the original series)

One really big one is how in Star Trek II : The Wrath of Khan, Khan after capturing the Captain of the Reliant says "I don't know you", then looks at Chekov, and says "but you; I never forget a face". Yet Chekov was not a crew member at the time Khan was marooned on Ceti Alpha V.
