Whoever is the scout that recommended Mike Pelfrey

I expect that the decision on how to augment an MLB roster has proportionately little to do with actual ability of a player when you factor in MLB experience. I think that that can override raw ability. Just random speculation, but what other explanation is there for signing a player like Pelfry at the expense of the players in the organization? Or are the minor leagues that depleted?

The Tigers would be in no better or worse shape rolling with boyd, greene, farmer, or Norris at this point.

I agree so far. His stuff was a little better but he still can't locate the fastball and it's killing him. Never has and probably never will.

I've got to give Pelfrey credit for being a stand up guy. Second start in a row iirc he has looked in the mirror and said he stunk the joint up.
Unlike a player like Cringe who had an excuse for every time he check swing k'd.
Hope here is that Pelfrey can turn it around. Hey, Upton has been hitting better since dropped to the 5th spot in the order, long season anything is possible.

Complelty agree hard to give this guy a hard time when he's so brutally honest with everyone, I respect that a lot.

I have tried to be as positive as possible with this signing. I guess he can't get any worse can he?

I'm rooting for him ... maybe he needs to be a soft tossing specialist !!!

Not a bad idea, maybe work on a knuckle ball! What I like about him is that he is humble and knows he stinks.

I think the crowd will start getting on Pelfrey next start. Maybe he goes to mop up or to AAA

Pelfrey is sure glad one team gave him one last pay day. Man he bamboozled the Tigers all the way to the bank..

Mat Latos 5-1, paid $3 million for this season by the White Sox. List other pitchers who are past arbitration, better than pelfrey, and signed for less than Pelfrey.

I'd give him credit if he refunded the tigers at least 10 million back of his contract. Otherwise, guy is an overpaid bum.

Free Agency has changed everything. These players aren't going to do that. The MLBPA would be all over a player. As it is, you rarely see a player give a home team discount.

Scouts thought he had something to give, ok, Avila could take a flyer. The problem is with the 2yr deal, you can't cut bait as easily.

This may be the 2nd worst pitcher signing I can think of off hand outside of Dontrelle Willis

Considering Lincecum took a prorated 2.5m deal with the Angels, seems like he could have been a solid candidate to replace Pelfrey in the 5 spot. Injury prone? Yes. Has he ever been good? Hell yes. Pros outweigh the cons to me on that one. Not my money though.
