The Tigers, who swept the Marlins 2-0 to start the season, are now 116-72 (.617) in interleague play since 2006, the second-best record in MLB. The Red Sox are No. 1 at 120-66 (.645).

First-pitch weather forecast: Mostly cloudy, 54 degrees (wind chill 51 degrees). Rain expected at times during the morning.

Game notes: So after the weather gave the Tigers Sunday night off, Detroit hosts Pittsburgh in the team's second interleague series of the young season. These two teams will play today and Tuesday at Comerica, then Wednesday and Thursday at PNC Park. Verlander was pushed back from Sunday to start today. Niese, who never has faced Detroit, is coming off of a five-inning, five-run effort in the Pirates' 6-5 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.

Jaso leads off with a double. McCutchen flies out to center, but advances the runner to third. Matt Joyce hits a grounder through a pulled in infield and scores the run.

1-0 Pirates

Strike em' out, throw em'out from JV and McCann. Bottom of the 1st coming up.

JV getting roughed up. 3-0 Pirates now only 1 out in the second inning. Still runners at 1st and 2nd.

Not sure he has the velocity to close out a batter anymore. Just foul after foul..

Okay, 3-0 not too bad. Plenty of time. JV's 12-6 curve is working well today.

That was one awful pitch to Joyce he had him 1 -2 and threw that shit pitch.

Why it's another soft tosen lefty, what else is new, can't square up the soft tosen lefties, and JV not fooling anyone = 0-2 when mud starts the game thread. :-(

It's only one time through the order..

I'm not watching the game but following it on gamecast. What a good AB by Jaso. Falls behind 0-2 on the first 2 pitches. Then fouls off several pitches in the 10 pitch AB before hitting a SF.
