RIP - It is definitely the end of an era with some of these guys we all grew up listening to passing away.

I really loved when they switched roles in innings 4-5-6. And Howard Stitzel is remembering Carey in a special way.

Yep. And he was so good. If Carey and Harwell were still doing games I'd be listening to them rather than watching games on TV. They were so good, back in the day it was all we had. Made a good summer day great..

RIP.. The duet I listened to many of summers nights in my youth have now both past on :(

Grew up listening to Ernie and Paul broadcast many a tiger games in the late 80's they were a great team.

RIP Paul Carey.

DETROIT - Former Detroit Tigers broadcaster Paul Carey passed away Tuesday at the age of 88.

Carey was the broadcast partner of the late Ernie Harwell from 1973-91 and also worked at WJR radio from 1956-1992.

According to his wife Nancy, the cause of death was complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and heart disease.

Late Tuesday the Tigers organization released a statement regarding the passing of Paul Carey:

"The Tigers organization is saddened by the loss of Paul Carey. Paul was a consummate professional who had one of the most distinctive and classic broadcast voices. Paul captivated Tigers fans for 19 seasons behind the microphone including the magical 1984 World Series Championship. The Tigers family extends our sincere condolences to Paul's wife, Nancy, and his family."

Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
