-The Tigers dropped the series opener in Kansas City on Tuesday, 8-6. Detroit had its chances, but came up empty too often with the bases loaded. The Royals -- defending World Series champs -- claim the early lead in the American League Central.

-Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez now has 999 career RBIs. When he reaches 1,000, he will be the fifth Venezuelan-born player to do so. That lists includes Miguel Cabrera and Magglio Ordonez. Martinez says he's OK after getting hit by a pitch in last night's game.

-The Tigers are now 3-3 on this road trip, which concludes with two more games in Kansas City.
