Verlander's 1st-place votes not enough to snag Cy Young.

Kate Upton furious about fianc? Justin Verlander's Cy Young snub.
Mlive

Upton, a model and actress, unleashed her fury at MLB, tweeting at the league, "I thought I was the only one allowed to (expletive) Justin Verlander?!"
Her comment received 13,000 retweets within 30 minutes and had not been deleted as of 7:25 p.m. Eastern time.

Kate Upton gets vulgar in blasting Cy Young voters.

She does have a point. Leaving him off the ballot was an obvious attempt at making their 1st choice have an advantage. And they were both from Tampa so I guarantee they were in on it. Fucked up.

After further thought, being from Tampa, maybe they're like the fans down there and don't actually watch baseball.

That's hilarious!

There's a panel for everything these days. Why not a panel for these awards? Why leave it up to baseball writers who hardly see these players play? But you have to have been a hermit in Katmandu all season to not recognize that JV was a sure ballot selection.

I'm sure any panel you come up with will have biases. It's not like Porcello wasn't a worthy winner.

Happy for Porcello, and to think we had all 3 of these guys. Fucking blows. I was in the camp to keep Sherzer and Fister and to have the chips fall where they may. Giving up Verlander(too big of salary to keep both Sherzer and JV) would have nabbed this team some really good guys. Now this team has to think of doing it now, without Sherzer, Porcello, Fister, etc... to back up a JV trade deal. Scary thought giving him up without those guys in the dugout anymore. I sure hope this Fulmer guy is the real deal.

I'm sure the writers are informed. All they have to do is look at stats. You don't have to watch the games.

One of the tampa writers turned in his ballot a week early. Missing Verlanders final two starts.
How f'n informed was that asshole?? He obviously didn't watch the games.

Wait a minute, "you don't have to watch the games"? you're kidding?

not to have an opinion for the Cy Young winner. Everyone on this thread has their opinion and I'm sure that most haven't seen many of the games by the other pitchers.

As far as turning his ballot in early...that is BS. I think that the ballots shouldn't be turned in until after the post season and the post season should have an impact on the voting.

It looks like everyone's opinion here thinks Verlander got screwed in the vote.

So the pitchers in the post season will have an advantage over those P on teams that don't get in.

Well I guess Kate won't be wearing white dress at the wedding...

Seriously though, the system is antiquated and bad for baseball irregardless. Different era as starting pitchers rarely go into the 7th or beyond, QS are factored inefficiently, and sabermetrics seem to be all the rage these days which point out viable performance achievements from a personal and team level. So the writers have all this information at their disposal and don't utilize it, classic laziness that plagues these dinosaurs. The game has way more potential than this to capture more fans. It's almost as if the controversy outweighs the game itself, welcome social media disease.

As far as the eye test, I watch a crap load of baseball and seen all the cy candidates pitch this year and JV was the most dominant along with Britton.

There has to be a better way, I would think that a televised panel for one evening would make for a compelling show. Run it for a week with each night breaking the various awards down with highlights, sabermetrics, interviews, and discussion.

That wouldn't work. Some get to the playoffs others don't. As far as them just looking at the stats, probably not because the stats say someone else.

I expect the TB writers had some type of vendetta against JV or really wanted Rick to win, as he got two first place votes by those two. They obviously talked about it, too much coincidences.
