Tigers Sign Joba Chamberlain

Perez can play SS.

Assuming he's in the 25-man team.

Jackson
Kinsler
Hunter
Cabrera
Vmart
Avila
Castellanos
Iggy
Dirks
Davis
Holiday
Lombardozzi
Kelly

That's 13, which is the standard compliment of position players. and you never know if Ausmus is one of those guys who would rather have 12 position players and 13 pitchers, seeing as it;s the AL and all. Now you could eliminate Kelly and add Perez, But that seems unlikely just so Perez can cover 1 position, where Kelly is likely to fill in at at least 5 positions [LF/CF/RF/3B/1B].

Also, DFA'ing Danny Worth might have been an okay move, since he's likely to pass through waivers and we can resign him to a minor league contract.

At this point Perez will probably be competing with Kelly and Lombardozzi in string training BUT you have to take into account a few variables. Perez can cover 2B/SS/3B and would as well provide another option off the bench in terms of above average speed. We already have 5 players that can provide OF depth without Kelly. (Jackson, Hunter, Dirks, Davis and as well Lombardozzi) where as the ability to cover SS basically falls to Lombardozzi who has I believe 2 games played at SS and regards as having HORRIBLE range at SS.

So at this junction I really believe the battle in spring training will probably fall in line between Lombardozzi and Kelly because having the ability late in games to have a pinch hitter for Iggy might become vital at times without basically losing ALL defense at SS following.

well joba worked for half a season then other teams scouting said sit on his slider because that is all he throws...

He teased us for 3/4 of the season, he was very good the first 3/4... He's screwed us in the most important time... I don't know why he doesn't trust his 95 mph fastball... Probably because he has no idea where it is going...

He wasnt even good for 3/4, he's been trash basically the whole 2nd half. 4.97 ERA since after the ASB. Also a 4.20 FIP, his K rate has dropped nearly 10%, his BB rate went up, his LOB% dropped, and all of this even though his babip went down a little bit. And yet, he's still pitching the 8th because Ausmus is a fucking dumbass.

Ausmus' biggest mistake was not getting Sanchez more work the last week or 2 of the season. If he had pitched more than one fucking inning, he could have gone longer tonight and we probably win the game.
