Tigers vs. rays 5-20-16 Game 41

Seriously, the problem with Sanchez is that his fastball is only 91 max, 89 mostly... His changeup is still devastating but no one is scared of his fastball... When he came to the Tigers his fastball was 94-95... 7 mph is not enough to survive, they foul off the 91mph and kill the changeup, especially on the 3rd time around the lineup... Unless someone wakes up, he is not our #3, maybe a good solid #5...

Alex Avila has more hits and walks but less strikeouts in 1 less plate appearance than McCann.

Starters leaving inherited runners

Greene 3-3 100.0% (2 of 3 GS)
Verlander 4-5 80.0% (3 of 9 GS)
Sanchez 5-11 45.5% (7 of 9 GS)

Pelfrey 3-9 33.3% (6 of 8 GS)
Zimmermann 1-4 25.0% (2 of 8 GS)
Fulmer 0-1 0.0% (1 of 4 GS)

Total 16-33 48.5 IS% (21-41 GS)

League average without DET is 28.0%. If DET had a league average bullpen, the starter ERA would go from 4.77 to 4.53. While not great, it is an improvement. Now if Ausmus would just take the starter out at the end of an inning or let them work through the first 2 batters getting on more often, the results might be different. And maybe save some stress to the bullpen.

I'd be scared to do anything different with Maybin for fear that it might change him back into the Maybin. lol

I hear ya, but seriously neither Upton or JD have had success batting there. While all that was going on, I had said maybe move Iggy there, but he isn't hitting like he could either, Maybin is and has some speed to go first to third or home. They need the top two spots on base more than it's been. For the most part it's Kinsler and a black hole of suck in the 2 spot. Even if moving Maybin there and he slows down hitting, they should get creative and put the hot hitter out of all of them up there.

STREAKS AND STATS:
Justin Upton drew his ninth walk of the year in the second inning. Five Tigers players have more walks than Upton this year, and two more are tied with him, at nine.

Miguel Cabrera hit his seventh home run of the year in the third and then his eighth in the seventh. He had hit 10 home runs by this date last year, to include three two-homer games. His last two-home game was on April 25.

Cabrera's multi-homer game marked the 26th of his career, tying him with Willie Horton for third-most in club history. Hank Greenberg set the record, with 32. Cecil Fielder is second, with 29.

Cameron Maybin stole his fourth base of the year in the fourth inning, marking the fourth straight game he's stolen a bag. The last Tiger to steal a base in four straight games was Rajai Davis on April 5-11, 2014.
Ron LeFlore and Ty Cobb are the only Tigers since 1913 to do it in five straight. LeFlore has the modern franchise record with a six-game streak in 1977.

Since being activated from the disabled list, Maybin has gone 8-for-12 with four stolen bases, two walks, and only one strikeout in four games played. None of his hits have been for extra bases, though.
