Indians @ Tigers 9-29-16 Game 159

I never thought of that.

so best case scenario,... it's not needed for either team and the tigers have already wrapped up a spot..

worst case, Cleveland still needs it, they make them play and the tigers are already out of it yet have to play another game after it's already over. that would suck. don't let that happen Tigers.

They'd still play it if Cleveland needs it for any playoff positioning for them also.

Yes I'm aware.

I think the Tigers would have to sweep and Baltimore get swept for the Tigers to clinch before Monday.

Obviously Baltimore could clinch more easily than the Tigers, and if they were to, the game could be skipped if there was no making a difference in the playoff positioning for Cleveland regardless of the outcome.

This was in both Mlive and Freep for weekend rotation vs. the braves.

Lefty Daniel Norris, who was scheduled to start on Thursday, will now start Friday in Atlanta.
Right-hander Jordan Zimmermann will be pushed back to Saturday.
Justin Verlander will pitch on Sunday, as he was originally scheduled.
Michael Fulmer, who pitched in Wednesday’s rain-shortened game, could be called upon to start Monday’s game.

could play out...
Mon: CLE at DET
Tue: DET at BAL (Game 163)
Wed: DET at TOR (Wildcard)
Thu: DET at TEX (Game 1 of ALDS)

That would be something to play 5 different teams in 5 days, in 5 different cities.

Odds are we end up with a rook in Norris on the hill in our wild card game if we are lucky enough to make it.

from an ESPN article

The Blue Jays and Orioles are 1? games ahead of Detroit, which saw its game against the Cleveland Indians rained out. That game will be played Monday only if affects the wild-card race -- if the Tigers are a half-game ahead or a half-game behind in the standings. It will not be played even if it only affects Cleveland's chance at home-field advantage. Right now, things look like this:

Texas Rangers: 94 wins

Boston Red Sox: 92 wins

Indians: 91 wins

The Indians lost the season series to the Red Sox, so they are effectively two games behind them now.

Thanks, so what Cleveland does matter not, to be played only if needed for Tigers and wild card spot.

now they said that rule has changed.

The chances that the Tigers and Indians have to play a makeup game of Thursday?s rainout have actually increased dramatically because of what MLB describes as a rule ?clarification? this season. In the past, they only would have had to play this game if it affected the Tigers? chances of being a wild-card team. Not anymore.

Now the rules also require games like this to be made up if they affect home-field advantage in the postseason. In the Indians? case, that?s a definite possibility. At the moment, the race for seeding in the AL goes like this:

Texas 94-65

Boston 92-67

Cleveland 91-67

If the Indians look up Sunday night and find themselves a half-game ahead of the Red Sox (or a half-game ahead of the Rangers for that matter), THEY would be the team required to play ? and win ? that makeup game Monday at 1:10 p.m. ET, whether it affects Detroit or not. If they?re a half-game behind, however, they wouldn?t be required to play, because both Boston and Texas hold the tiebreaker over them to determine seeding.

Just saw that to, WTF, they don't even know! I think they are just making it up as they go. LOL.
