The tragic death of Jose Fernandez had a profound impact on the Tigers clubhouse and, by extension, their lineup today. Jose Iglesias was originally in the lineup at shortstop, but he was emotional over the news of his good friend and fellow Cuban player.
“We’ve been through a lot together,” Iglesias said. “It was just very fortunate. He was only 24. His family feels like … I can’t explain how his family feels.”
Iglesias was scratched minutes shortly after the lineup was posted, with Andrew Romine starting in his place.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia played with Fernandez for parts of two seasons, catching eight of his starts. He was in the video room while the clubhouse was open to the media, so his state of mind is unknown. He traditionally catches Matt Boyd’s starts, so he’s in the lineup.
On the Royals side, Eric Hosmer is off. Whit Merrifield starts at first base, his fifth different defensive position this season.

Lots of offense will be required today, hopefully they can all be patient and put up 20 today

I know if you make the playoffs in baseball anything can happen and teams can get hot but does anyone really think this team has a chance to win a series? Because I sure as hell don't.

Tigers still have a chance. The Lions season is already over with this defense.

Tigers do still have a chance, but it's getting smaller by the day.
A very frustrating season no matter what the final outcome.

What are the odds we can hit 2 salami's in one inning? C'mon Romine...run into one. Or just keep the inning going.

Not a bad idea but wasn't dropped down in a good place, maybe works better also if the guy on third has any clue your going to do that..freakin lettuce such a weak ass hitter
