Steven Moya, Tigers LF?

What are the odds he breaks camp with the Tigers in spring training as the starting LF on opening day? He is literally everything the Tigers are looking for in an LF: a lefty bat with power and above average defense. Only one massive flaw and that is he could swing the bat like the White Sox version of Adam Dunn with even fewer walks. If he shows consistent contact in ST, I think he would be the best option in LF for the Tigers.

I am sorry, but the only thing Moya does well is he hit Home Runs.

He doesn't hit for average. He strikes out a ton. He tends to ground into his fair share of doubleplays.

He is one of the worst for plate discipline/drawing walks. At least Dunn drew a ton of walks. Moya consistently has an OBP under .300, even if he has a good SLG.

Defensively, at 6'7", Moya is not quick to the ball and his routes are sluggish at best. He has an OK arm. I have not ever seen a report describing his defense as "above average".

On second thought, and after the winter so far, Moya is exactly who we need to guarantee a horrible season.

He is the most overrated tigers prospect since Wilkin Ramirez. I honestly would be surprised if he ever got more than a cup of coffee at the major league level

way to many k's. We can start there.. But hey he fits right in !!!

No offense buddy, but that idea was quickly and thoroughly shot down as it should've been.

Gose much >Moya.

Gose is the Tigers Left Fielder unless something big happens. None of the "kids" are going to move him from that spot.

Gose the every day LF and Maybin in CF....terrible!

3 years away, ages 22 through 24:

C. Maybin 99.7 RC/650 .290 BAVG .359 OBP .456 SLG .815 OPS 11.3 PA/BB 49.8 PA/HR

W. Bernard 91.1 RC/650 .294 BAVG .364 OBP .415 SLG .779 OPS 11.3 PA/BB 78.9 PA/HR

T. Collins 89.8 RC/650 .271 BAVG .349 OBP .430 SLG .779 OPS 10.1 PA/BB 33.3 PA/HR

W. Ramirez 89.0 RC/650 .244 BAVG .316 OBP .475 SLG .791 OPS 12.4 PA/BB 20.7 PA/HR

A. Dirks 79.6 RC/650 .272 BAVG .328 OBP .390 SLG .718 OPS 15.2 PA/BB 78.4 PA/HR

D. Fields 76.6 RC/650 .251 BAVG .331 OBP .379 SLG .710 OPS 11.3 PA/BB 64.9 PA/HR

S. Moya 75.4 RC/650 .254 BAVG .283 OBP .444 SLG .727 OPS 29.5 PA/BB 25.9 PA/HR

Av. Garcia 74.9 RC/650 .271 BAVG .317 OBP .402 SLG .719 OPS 19.2 PA/BB 35.9 PA/HR

G. Hernandez 71.3 RC/650 .263 BAVG .331 OBP .347 SLG .678 OPS 12.0 PA/BB 174.5 PA/HR

A. Gose 58.3 RC/650 .233 BAVG .297 OBP .336 SLG .635 OPS 13.0 PA/BB 116.8 PA/HR

Anthony Gose is far worse an option in the OF than any other player we have had. And we traded Devon Travis for him straight up.

D. Travis 102.4 RC/650 .302 BAVG .367 OBP .462 SLG .829 OPS 12.4 PA/BB 38.8 PA/HR

Did they drop the whole fielding component of playing Left Field or is that still a part of a player's requirement to be in the big league?

As for, "far worse" mmm, worse at the plate, but not far. I think limited is more of a fair assessment or offensively challenged.

It is all about balance.

Yes, Dombrowski got beaten on the Gose for Travis trade, but, he may have won the Price for Norris, Boyd, and Labourt.

There is approximately a 17 run difference between Moya's offense and Gose's offense. That is 3 win difference.

If Gose's defense was on par with Alex Gordon, then you would have something. And yes, he could see an improvement from CF to LF, but not by the amount he would need to be average in LF.

UZR/150 Last 3 years

Jason Heyward 21.7 UZR/150 72 DRS

Alex Gordon 14.2 UZR.150 50 DRS

Yoenis Cespedes 12.3 UZR/150 22 DRS

Curtis Granderson 0.6 UZR/150 11 DRS

J.D. Martinez -0.4 UZR/150 -8 DRS

Austin Jackson -2.2 UZR/150 2 DRS

Rajai Davis -2.9 UZR/150 -2 DRS

Anthony Gose -3.7 UZR/150 -10 DRS

Cameron Maybin -6.3 UZR/150 -17 DRS

ToriiHunter -8.8 UZR/150 -36 DRS

Avisail Garcia -14.4 UZR/150 -24 DRS

Anthony Gose's defense is highly overrated. He would have to have a UZR/150 of approximately 20 just to be average. He is worse defensively than Rajai Davis and worse offensively than Rajai Davis. And Rajai Davis is a below average LFer. And yes, Steven Moya is probably a better option than Rajai Davis in LF. But even Moya would be below average.

Run Collins out there everyday. Why we picked up Maybin and Aviles is beyond me. This team is gonna really be irritating to watch all year. Wait to Miggy and or VMart go down with injuries, it will be ugly. Indians and Whitesox are shaping up nicely. I see last place for the kitties.

At least all these crappy OF'ers we have are not signed to a big long term deal.

Stop gap type players, that will all probably hang themselves if they are given a long enough rope.

Now, I AM NOT saying that Gose is the man. But that fielding and batting taken together he is the best of the current options--Gose is better at baseball than either Collins or Moya.
Not be a lot, but by enough.

I absolutely agree that for the Tigers to be a contender something needs to change in left or center or both.

Or just about everything has to go the Tigers' way.
