Detroit Tigers 2015-2016 offseason calendar

Tigers trade Jefry Marte to Angels for Kody Eaves

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/1...ade-jefry-marte-los-angeles-angels-kody-eaves

Eaves is listed as a 2B & 3B so my guess is he's a better defensive player than Marte. He's also a LH bat.

He pretty much is just a 2B.

Statistically, he does not draw walks and hit for a good average. His OPS is tied to his slugging/power.

The point on why DET got him is that he was not on the 40-man roster prior to, or after this trade. Marte will need to be added to LAA's 40-man roster, so they either had a vacancy or thought Marte was worth designating someone else for assignment. It says more about the value of Marte, than the value of Eaves.

it could say a lot of things. Maybe LAA has an abundance of LH hitters or 2B in their system.

It's hard to complain...the Tigers gave organizational fodder and got the same in return

Sorry, but Marte is a notch better than Eaves. Maybe it is just semantics. Maybe it is because DET has no plan for if/when Castellanos fails or goes down with injury.

This is more of a plus for LAA than it is for DET.

both have a career .712 OPS, Marte has a little better OBP (.325 - .314) both can play 3B but Eaves can play 2B as well. Plus he is a LH bat who is 2 years younger. IF Marte is a little better it is VERY little.

As far as a plan if Nick goes down with injury...I'm sure they have a plan.

My point is/was that Marte has been on the 40-man roster for multiple MLB teams and was just made room for by another.

Eaves may never be added to a 40-man roster for any considerable period, if ever. Because he hasn't been on a 40-man roster.

Time will tell. I get why DET took Eaves, it beats letting Marte walk for nothing. It still goes back to not designating a "no chance" reliever over a possible positional replacement player.

Tigers trade Jefry Marte for Angels prospect Kody Eaves.
Freep

Eaves, 22, primarily plays second base and will start this upcoming season at Double-A Erie.
Eaves isn?t a premium prospect, but affords the team the opportunity to add another organizational middle infielder after trading Javier Betancourt to the Brewers earlier this off-season in exchange for closer Francisco Rodriguez.
