This team would be further strapped with another high contract (without much team improvement). What is people's aversion in letting Collins have a chance? It's not like he is worse option than Maybin or Gose. And yet, there are some that want to give them a chance. Signing Cespedes, Upton, Fowler, etc, etc only keeps kicking the can down the road. Let's see where we are at before we commit to more long term, overvalued contracts.

2015 Opening Day vs 2016 Projected Opening Day

Y. Cespedes > T. Collins

R. Davis > C. Maybin

A. Avila > J. Saltamacchia

H. Perez > M. Aviles

D. Price > J. Zimmermann

A. Simon > M. Pelfrey

On paper, the 2016 bull pen should be better than the 2015 bull pen. However, that does not necessarily equate to a significant more wins. This team still needs to score runs. They had the worst record in the AL since May 16th (by 4 games) and was one of the worst in scored runs. They have not improved offensively nor defensively from 2015 Opening Day Roster. They might not even improved since the trade deadline. In fact, they have regressed. The starting pitching won't be better, at least on paper. The only thing to point to is the bull pen, which is traditionally the last piece to the puzzle.
