Two-time American League MVP Miguel Cabrera has agreed to terms with the Detroit Tigers on a new 10-year contract that will pay him just under $300 million, a baseball source told ESPN.com.

The new contract, which covers the two years remaining on Cabrera's current deal and eight additional years, is expected to become official later this week, the source said.

Tigers extend Miguel Cabrera for 10 years, $292 million.
from OutsidePitch

The total would take him through his age 41 season with the likely assumption that he will finish his career as a member of the Tigers. The financial terms of the contract are eight years, $248 to $250 million of new money, but also includes the $44 million over the remaining two years of Cabrera’s old deal, bringing the total to 10-years, $292 million. That sums up the calculations. The average annual salary for the next two years is was $22 million under the old deal.

Miguel Cabrera has 365 home runs, 1,260 RBI & a .321 batting average.
Only 7 players have EVER amassed those career numbers.
Miguel Cabrera average season (last 10 seasons)-- .324 BA, 35 HR, 120 RBI, 191 hits.

All said and done, the Tigers will have paid Miguel Cabrera more than $400 Million to wear the Olde English D.

Thank You, Mr. Ilitch

Best move in the history of Detroit sports was to Trade for Carbrera. 2nd best move was this extension.

He is the best player in baseball and should be paid like it.

Max was stupid by not taking his extension offer. If he gets hurt or starts having release point issues he will be kicking himself the rest of his life.

While I won't fault people for trying to make Pujols comparisons, I think there is something to be said for loyalty. I know he wasn't drafted here but he's the closest thing to a Barry/Yzerman that this generation's Tigers have had, alcohol issues withstanding.

Miguel Cabrera jerseys are now the safest investment in Detroit.

Cabrera commitment could reach $352M. there are 2 vesting options, in yrs 11 and 12, at $30M each.

I know almost everyone here will rip on me but most of you knew this was coming. I am 100% against this extension. Albert Pujolis contract 2.0

I`m uneasy about it as well, but we can only hope he plays another 3-4 years at first before moving to full time DH and become David Ortiz for the 5 years after that
