A lot of credible reports have LAD also shedding payroll. The only way DET trades with LAD is if we accept payroll in return (ala Kinsler/Fielder) deal. Heck, they are already paying $47 Mil in 2017 to players no longer on the team and they have $171 Mil guaranteed to just 8 players. It does not make sense for the Dodgers to trade for Verlander, unless they also get Kinsler and/or J.D. Martinez in the same deal and DET sends money along.
